Jeremiah 17:7 - Postcard From Heaven
Jer 17:7 (NLT) "But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made
the LORD their hope and confidence.
The book Walden Two tells about scientists who pulled a trick on some sheep.
First, they fenced them in with an electrified wire. The sheep figured out
pretty quickly that they should stay away from the wire.
Then the scientists replaced the wire with a piece of string. Not knowing
the difference, the sheep stayed away from the string too. They even taught
their young to stay away from the string. The young sheep believed that the
string was dangerous, because, that's what the older sheep taught them.
Humans may not believe in electrified string, but we surely listen to a lot
of things other people tell us. God warns us to put our trust in him, not in
other people. He used Jeremiah to warn the people of Israel to trust in him
and not be led astray by other people. [Youth SB]
After being battered all day by a hot south wind, the squash vines and
tomato plants in our garden drooped in the fading light. They practically
cried out for water from the sprinkler. But the trees in the yard were green
and flourishing, though they required far more water than the squash and
tomatoes. The deep roots of the trees found a hidden source of water far
below the surface where the garden plants struggled. Like those trees,
people who trust in the Lord are not at the mercy of surface circumstances
because we have deep roots to our eternal Source. [Quiet Time SB]
