Hab.3:19: The Pinnacle Of Faith.

Hab 3:19 (NIV)  The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my 
feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. 

Habakkuk has learned the lesson of faith (2:4)--to trust in 
God's providence regardless of circumstances. He declares that even if 
God should send suffering and loss, he would still rejoice in his 
Savior-God--one of the strongest affirmations of faith in all Scripture. [NIV

The pinnacle of faith (3:19). Faith is that wonderful capacity 
to trust God and find comfort in Him when all in this world seems 
to crumble around us. Habakkuk has sensed the disaster which will 
soon strike Judah and discovered that despite everything he can still 
rejoice in the Lord. As for the dangerous times ahead, the prophet is 
sure that God will guide his feet, as He guides the feet of a deer or 
goat that walks daily on dangerous mountain heights. [Victor Bible

The gazelle is both swift and surefooted, so that it readily 
escapes pursuers. The picture is that of one who is supremely confident 
that he who leads his people into trials is faithful and will with 
each trial make also a way of escape, that they may be able to bear

Habakkuk had looked at the coming judgment from God's viewpoint 
alone. His concern had been for God's glory, and not for men-not even 
for himself. 
But Habakkuk was a man, and must face the Chaldean terror.
We need to picture Habakkuk, standing on some mountain trail, as 
he came to this realization. Trembling and overcome, his eyes 
caught a glimpse of movement above him. There, on a higher crag, the 
prophet caught a glimpse of a mountain goat, sure-footed despite the 
danger on the heights. 
And then Habakkuk realized the nature of faith's calling. He too 
was to walk on the heights, to live only a step from disaster, as 
his nation fell in ruins around him. 
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my 
Saviour. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the 
feet of a deer, He enables me to go on the heights. Habakkuk 3:18-19

These verses represent one of the greatest confessions of faith 
found in the Bible. "Though everything around me fail-the fields, the 
vineyards, the flocks, the herds-yet will I rejoice in the Lord." This is 
the OT version of Phil. 4:11-13. Habakkuk knew that he had no 
strength of his own, but that God could give him the strength he would 
need to go through the trials that lay ahead. "He will make me like a 
deer-I will jump over the mountains." 
How much more this ought to mean to us. Habakkuk looked through 
the fog and mist and wondered at God's program, but in Christ we 
know God's plans for this age (Eph. 1:8-10, and chap. 3). We have the 
entire Bible to study, and Habakkuk did not have this. We have the 
record of life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, as 
well as the promise of His coming again. If any people ought to walk 
by faith and rejoice in the Lord, it is the Christian church today. 
Yet too often we doubt, complain, run ahead of God, and even 
criticize what God is doing. 
Habakkuk shows us how to deal with life's problems: (1) admit 
them honestly; (2) talk to God about them; (3) wait quietly before 
Him in prayer and meditation on the Word; (4) when He speaks, listen 
and obey. Never run away from the difficulties of life, because God 
wants to use those difficulties to strengthen your faith. "Never doubt 
in the dark what God has told you in the light." The just shall
