Luke 20:35, 36 - Marriage After The Resurrection?
Luke 20:35, 36 (KJV) But they which shall be accounted worthy to
obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry,
nor are given in marriage: 36 Neither can they die any more: for
they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being
the children of the resurrection.
Luke 20:35, 36 (TNIV) But those who are considered worthy of
taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead
will neither marry nor be given in marriage, 36 and they can no
longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God's children,
since they are children of the resurrection.

And being sons of and sharers in the resurrection, they are sons of

who are resurrected will neither marry nor be given in marriage. 36
And in that life, people will never die, but will be like the angels
who live forever. They're God's children because they've been saved
and raised from the dead.

resurrection of the dead will no longer be concerned with marriage 36 nor, of
course, with death. They will have better things to think about, if you
can believe it. All ecstasies and intimacies then will be with God.

Evidently there will be no need for marriage, because a

In the resurrection state there is no marriage or procreation.

In the new age there will be no marriage, no procreation and no

Marriage is ordained to perpetuate the human family; but as
there will be no breaches by death in the future state, this ordinance
will cease. (Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary re Mark 12:25)
There are men today who express their belief that there will be
marriages and births in the new earth; but those who believe the
Scriptures cannot accept such doctrines. The doctrine that children will be
born in the new earth is not a part of the "sure word of prophecy" (2
Peter 1:19). The words of Christ are too plain to be misunderstood.
They should forever settle the question of marriages and births in
the new earth. Neither those who shall be raised from the dead, nor
those who shall be translated without seeing death, will marry or be
given in marriage. They will be as the angels of God, members of the

Many people are jolted at the prospect of eternal life without
marriage with their partner on earth and the physical relationship that
goes along with it because it is one of earth's greatest pleasures.
At first reading, Jesus seems to imply as much here.
At its very best, sexual activity creates a great sense of
oneness between lovers, a superb moment of intense intimacy, and
wonderful physical feelings. Lovers wish their excitement would last and
last, but too quickly life returns to normal.
People who ponder eternity (and who doesn't?) are right to
hope that the freedom, intensity, and intimacy they experience now
will be transformed, expanded, and made utterly glorious in new life
with God in heaven, where joys last and last, and never grow old.
Christians don't know what God has planned, but they trust in
his love. The beauty and excitement they feel now is not a trick but
a foretaste of an even better experience.
In the new heaven and new earth, the relationships among all
Christian brothers and sisters will be so intense, so filled with love,
that earthly marital bliss will seem shallow by comparison. [Life

In the resurrection there is no marriage. But this does not mean
husbands and wives are separated. It simply means that the intimacy we
experience here on earth is a symbol of a reality we will experience in
glory. The joy a married couple finds in their union will not be taken
away, but will be multiplied, as we experience a closeness with others
that is beyond us here and now. [Victor Bible Reader's Companion]
In this world there is marriage, but in the other world there
will be no marriage. There is a very special and wonderful reason why
there is no marriage in the other world: love is perfected. Future
life and relationships will exceed earthly relationships, even the
bond of marital relationships. The strong union and bond of earthly
marriage will not be less, it will be greater and stronger in heaven, but
so will all other relationships.
In heaven our relationships will cease to be as they are on
earth. They will be changed in an absolute sense: selfishness and sin
will not affect our love and lives. Our love will be perfected;
therefore, we will love everyone perfectly. A wife on this earth will not
be loved as she was on this earth--imperfectly. She will be loved
more, loved perfectly. Everyone will love everyone else perfectly. God
will change all relationships into perfection, even as the
