CONTEXT
Declare God's Glory Among the Nations: A Missionary psalm which
calls believers to proclaim God's salvation among the nations.
[Andrews SB]
In Ps. 96 the psalmist calls on all the nations of the earth to
acknowledge the universal sovereignty of Jehovah. It has been called A
Missionary Hymn for All Ages. The psalm praises Jehovah as Creator and
Wonder-Worker of old (vv. 1-6), as Ruler of the world at present (vv. 7-9),
and as redeeming Judge at the restitution of all things (vv. 10-13).

COMMENTARY APPLICATION
Every day we cross paths with someone who needs to hear the
good news that the Lord saves. We can never fully plumb the depths of
God's character and attributes, but with every day and every
experience we can discover new facets about God, new songs to sing to him.
To "publish" means to share and that refers not only to writing
books and delivering sermons about God but also to sharing what the
Lord has done in our own lives so that others might be drawn to him.
Each of us can purpose to do that. The most powerful evangelism
doesn't take place within the four walls of a church building. It occurs
as we share with others in our neighborhood and workplace the good
news of what God has done for us individually and for the whole world
in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Ask God to
bring people across your path today who need to hear the good news
that God saves and that he loves them. And then ask him for the
compassion and courage to share the reason for your hope and to pray for
those people.
LORD, I want to sing a new song to you and bless your name. I
want to tell everyone about the amazing things you do. Help me to
start today, right where I am, to proclaim the good news of salvation
and to publish your glorious deeds everywhere I go. Give me the
words to share from your heart with those I will meet. [Praying
Through The Bible By Fuller re vv. 1-3]
The great and glorious work committed to us in acting a part
in the plan of salvation is wonderfully high and exalted. We cannot
weigh its merits. We are to walk by faith; and as we strive to
appreciate the possibilities, and realize the immensity of the plan of
salvation, it is our privilege to pray with the apostle Paul that we may be
able to "comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length,
and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth
knowledge" (Eph. 3:18). Lift Him up, the Man of Calvary. Let the mind dwell
upon the beauties of His character until by beholding you become
changed into the same image. A life of prayer and faith will lead us to
speak of His praise and tell of His power. . . .
Genuine conversion will unite our hearts in faith and love.
It will teach us to hold fast our confidence in Him who is our only
hope. By conversion we join our weakness to God's strength, our
ignorance to His wisdom, our unworthiness to His merits, our poverty to
His boundless riches, our helplessness to His enduring might.
We must search the Word of God, making it a part of
ourselves. A spirit of humility, the spirit of Christ, will help us to know
Him who has called us to glory and virtue.
If we brought the truth into the daily life as we should we
would advance higher and still higher, gaining a clearer and still
clearer understanding of the revelation of God. We would lift Him up in
songs of praise. Through the psalmist Christ declared, "In the midst
of the congregation will I praise thee" (Ps. 22:22). His voice was
the keynote of the universe. His unconfined power, His unsearchable
understanding, His wonderful sacrifice for the human race, help us to
comprehend the love of God. We need individually to have Christ abiding in
the soul. We need to open our minds and hearts to the indwelling of
the Spirit of truth. We need to appreciate our privileges as the
possessors of sacred, elevating truth. Think of what this means to us--
heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ! {HP 248}
