Isaiah 57:15 - The God The Heavens Can't Contain Dwells In Every Humble Heart.

Isaiah 57:15: The God The Heavens Can't Contain Dwells In Every
Humble Heart.

Isaiah 57:15 (NKJV) For thus says the High and Lofty One Who
inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy
place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the
spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones."

COMMENTARY PEARL

It's the miracle of the Incarnation! Our holy God took on
human flesh in the form of Jesus to pay the price for our sin. So
perhaps it's no surprise to read here in Isaiah that God reaches down
from His throne to people who are humble in heart.
The almighty God reigns supreme in the universe. He judges
humanity with fairness and mercy. He is exalted and righteous above all
power - natural as well as supernatural. He alone is worthy of
worship. No wonder He dwells in "the high and holy place."
But the holy place - that place set apart for a special
purpose - is not in a heavenly, celestial palace. That holy place where
Almighty God chooses to dwell is in the contrite and humble heart of a
believer.
Do you want almighty God, your Creator, to come and
fellowship with you? Then humble yourself and develop the kind of temple in
which your Sovereign Lord delights to inhabit. [Being Still With God
Every Day by Henry Blackaby]

COMMENTARY

This verse gives us a beautiful picture of God's relationship
with his people. He is high and holy, the glorious, exalted One. He
reigns over all in heaven and on earth. The Lord Almighty needs no
house, for his dwelling place is all eternity. And yet he chooses to
dwell with"literally to abide and make his home in"those who are
anything but "high and holy" and who know it. Rather they are those whose
spirits are humble, contrite, open, and teachable. Instead of being like
the Pharisee in Luke 18, who thanked God that he wasn't like the
unjust or other unsavory people, they are like the tax gatherer who
cried out for God's mercy. They know how unworthy they are of God's
love and mercy. But God's holy and loving heart is moved by
individuals who humble themselves and acknowledge their weakness and
dependence on him. Then he refreshes, revives, and gives new courage to
these repentant souls. How gracious our God is!
Oh, GOD, you are high and lifted up, glorious and exalted!
And I am not. I bow before you and ask you to develop in me a heart
of humility. Your Word says that you will not despise a repentant
heart, and so I ask you to work that in me today. Thank you for meeting
me right where I am and for bringing renewed courage for my life.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

The Lord longs for an intimate relationship with us. Time spent
in communication with Him is the best way to grow close to Him, as
we recognize His majesty and our own need. [Life Principles SB By

there are no barriers; the only password is prayer. Hosea Ballou
