1 Corinthians 10:13 - Temptation Comes with Limits and a Way of Escape.
1 Corinthians 10:13: Temptation Comes with Limits and a Way of
Escape.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV) There hath no temptation taken you but
such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer
you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIRV) You are tempted in the same way all
other human beings are. God is faithful. He will not let you be
tempted any more than you can take. But when you are tempted, God will
give you a way out. Then you will be able to deal with it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (MSG) No test or temptation that comes your
way is beyond the course of what others have had to face God will
never let you down; hell never let you be pushed past your limit;
hell always be there to help you come through it.
COMMENTARY PEARL
Some people find our Lord's approach to lust unnecessarily
harsh. Jesus says, "If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it
out and throw it away If your right hand causes you to stumble,
cut it off and throw it away" (Mat. 5:29, 30). HE'S NOT BEING
LITERAL HERE, BUT WE GET THE IDEA. WHEN IT COMES TO LUST, JESUS
PRESCRIBES A SEVERE, EVEN RADICAL OPERATION. IN OTHER WORDS, THIS IS
NOTHING TO CODDLE OR PLAY WITH - JUST AS ONE WOULD NOT PLAY WITH A
VENOMOUS SNAKE. IF WE DON'T DEAL SEVERELY WITH LUST, THEN A GLANCE
BECOMES A GAZE. A THOUGHT BECOMES AN ACTION. A CASUAL FANTASY BECOMES
HEARTBREAK AND A NIGHTMARE. So, yes, be harsh with such inclinations. Walk
away. Avert your gaze. Leave the movie. Turn off your computer. These
actions will result in God's blessing - and spare you years of regret.
Thank You, Lord, for Your promise in 1 Corinthians 10:13. You
will never allow me to be tempted beyond my ability to resist, and
You will always provide a way of escape from every trap and snare of
the evil one. Help me to quickly derail any train of thought that
grieves Your Holy Spirit! [A Spectacle of Glory by Joni Eareckson Tada

COMMENTARY
God's Rainy Days
I once heard someone say, "All sunshine makes a desert." It
takes rain to turn a desert into an oasis. I know that's been true in
my life. I'm not saying I look forward to rainy days, but I've
learned that it's during those times that I grow the most. We should
embrace those days when struggles, trials, and even temptations come our
way. It's the only way that our dry, and arid hearts can begin to
grow and blossom and flourish.
GOD DOESN'T BRING US TROUBLES. THERE ARE PLENTY OF THOSE IN
THIS WORLD ALREADY. BUT GOD DOES USE THOSE TROUBLES TO TEACH US,
STRENGTHEN US, AND BLESS US. WHEN THEY COME OUR WAY, WE CAN TAKE THOSE
TROUBLES TO OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND TRADE THEM IN FOR BLESSINGS. Over the
course of time, we become like a well-watered oasis, flourishing
despite the intense sunlight.
God is a loving Father who wants only what is best for us. He
has promised to walk with us through any trouble we encounter and
bring us wisdom and understanding along the way.
Father, thank you for walking with me through the inevitable
troubles of life. I know that you are bringing me showers of blessings.
In Jesus' name, Amen. [Celebrate Recovery Daily Devotional by John
& Johnny Baker]
The Same For Everyone
Knowing that temptations are pretty much the same for
everyone levels the playing field. We're all dealing with them - some in
one area, others in another. And IT'S GREAT NEWS THAT GOD WON'T
ALLOW THE TEMPTATION TO BE MORE THAN WE CAN STAND. HE PROMISES TO SHOW
US A WAY TO MOVE BEYOND THE TEMPTATION TO SOLID GROUND. THROUGH HIS
WORD AND HIS SPIRIT, HE ALWAYS PROVIDES DIRECTION TO KEEP US ON
TRACK. His grace is so great that he doesn't just forgive our failures;
he also gives us the power to turn around.
God will fit everything - our setbacks, our relapses, our
failures - into his plan for our lives. He has the power to overcome it
all.
God knows exactly what you're going through, and he provides
a way past temptation. [The Daniel Plan 365-Day Devotional]
A Way Out
We're all tempted. It's part of being human. The Bible says
even Jesus was tempted. It's not a sin to be tempted. It's more like,
"Welcome to the human race."
No matter what temptation we face, others have faced that
same temptation. Some days we give in, while on other days we are
able to resist. But GOD PROMISES HE WILL ALWAYS PROVIDE A MEANS OF
ESCAPE. WE WON'T HAVE TO SEARCH FOR IT OR FEEL HELPLESS. HE SHOWS US THE
WAY. WHAT A FANTASTIC PROMISE THIS IS: GOD WILL ALWAYS PROVIDE A WAY
OUT. THAT IS GRACE! WE CAN SIMPLY TURN THE CHANNEL, OR RUN OUT THE
DOOR, OR CHANGE THE WAY WE'RE THINKING. THERE'S ALWAYS GRACE TO GET
THROUGH.
WHEN WE'RE TEMPTED, IT'S JUST PART OF GROWTH. AND AS WE LOOK
TO GOD, HE WILL PROVIDE A WAY OUT. [The Daniel Plan 365-Day
Devotional]
CLOSING THOUGHT
One at a Time
My grandson came into the kitchen and asked for his vitamins.
He loves them because they taste like candy. He is allowed to have
two, and we let him reach in the bottle and get them himself, one at
a time. On that day, however, he decided to get a whole handful.
Guess what? He couldn't get his fist out of the jar, creating a
dilemma. He could hold onto the handful and get nothing, or let go and
get the two he is allowed to have, one at a time. After a little
convincing, he made the right choice.
IN RECOVERY (and Christian Living), BALANCE IS KEY. EVEN
TRYING TO DO TOO MANY GOOD THINGS CAN END IN DISASTER. IF WE GET SO
BUSY DOING GOOD THINGS THAT WE NEGLECT OUR FAMILIES OR CUT BACK ON
OUR FELLOWSHIP TIME WITH GOD, WE HAVE DONE HARM TO OURSELVES AND
THOSE WE LOVE. OF COURSE GOD HAS THINGS FOR ALL OF US TO DO, GOOD ACTS
OF SERVICE FOR HIS KINGDOM, BUT WE CAN'T JUST GRAB THEM UP ALL AT
ONCE. DOING THAT MIGHT CAUSE US TO GET SIDETRACKED, BRINGING THE WORK
OF RECOVERY, SPIRITUAL GROWTH, AND CARING FOR FAMILY TO A STOP.
I KNOW IT'S HARD TO SAY NO WHEN PEOPLE ASK US TO GET
INVOLVED. JUST REMEMBER, WE DON'T HAVE TO SAY NO TO EVERYTHING. BALANCE IS
THE KEY.
Father, thank you for your wisdom that keeps my life balanced
and moving forward. In Jesus' name. Amen. [Celebrate Recovery Daily
Devotional by John & Johnny Baker]
