INTRODUCTION
The thought of this verse is expressed repeatedly throughout the

In all conflicts, let us remember that with God nothing is
impossible; and as we read and hear his promises, let us turn them into

COMMENTARY
Unlike Zechariah, who only verses earlier questioned the
angel's word, Mary doesn't ask how she can know if it's true. She simply
asks how it could possibly happen. That's fair; faith doesn't mean
having no curiosity about the mechanism of supernatural events. And
Mary has a lot at stake in this process; she has been sexually pure
and wants to remain that way for her fiance. This mysterious
pregnancy could have harrowing implications.
Gabriel answers her simply. God's own Spirit will accomplish
it; her conception will require no physical activity, no human
intervention to make it happen. God only needs to speak in order for
something to come to pass. No word of God can fail. Nothing is impossible
with Him. When He says something, it's inevitable.
Think about that. It's true not only for Mary and a
miraculous conception. It's true for anything God has spoken. All those
words about your role in the Kingdom and the inheritance you will
receive? Inevitable. All those promises about His presence and His power
at work within you? Unshakable. Every comforting and encouraging
word about how He will defend, guide, protect, heal, strengthen,
deliver, and restore you? Certain. And those assurances that He will
answer your prayers and fulfill His purposes for you? Guaranteed.
Nothing He has spoken can prove untrue.
Yes, there are conditions to some of those promises, but He
has made them clear. They are not onerous. The burden is not on us
to live up to our end of the bargain. He takes the fulfillment upon
Himself. He offers His faithfulness.
That's good news. We aren't always faithful, but He is. It's
His Word on the line, and He will live up to it. When He makes a
promise, He will do everything necessary to accomplish it. No matter what
we face in life, we can be assured of His faithfulness to His

The angel Gabriel told Mary that God was planning to do
something humanly impossible. All human logic would agree that a virgin
could not give birth to a child. It was impossible. Yet this is
exactly what was to happen. When God speaks of doing the impossible, it
is no longer absurd. When was the last time God did the impossible
in your life? When was the last time God spoke to you about what He
wanted to do and you were scared to death by its magnitude?
God still does the impossible! Too often we acknowledge our
belief that God can do whatever He wants, then we add a safety clause:
But I just dont think God will do that with me! We become
practical atheists, believing that God can perform miracles but never
expecting a miracle in our own lives.
God wanted to bring salvation to all of humanity. It is
critical that Mary not only believed God could perform a miracle but also
adjusted her life to the awesome work He planned to do through her. The
difference between a Christian and a moral person is the divine. The
difference between a church and a social club is the miraculous. Some can
duplicate the morality of a Christian, but no one can reproduce the
miraculous that should be a part of the Christian experience. Do you

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS
Come to Me with all your weaknesses: physical, emotional, and
spiritual. Rest in the comfort of My Presence, remembering that nothing is
impossible with Me.
Pry your mind away from your problems so you can focus your
attention on Me. Recall that I am able to do immeasurably more than all
you ask or imagine. Instead of trying to direct Me to do this and
that, seek to attune yourself to what I am already doing.
When anxiety attempts to wedge its way into your thoughts,
remind yourself that I am your Shepherd. The bottom line is that I am
taking care of you; therefore, you needn't be afraid of anything.
Rather than trying to maintain control over your life, abandon yourself
to My will. Though this may feel frightening - even dangerous, the
safest place to be is in My will. (Luke 1:37; Eph. 3:20-21; Psa.

I am with you and for you. When you decide on a course of
action that is in line with My will, nothing in heaven or on earth can
stop you. You may encounter many obstacles as you move toward your
goal, but don't be discouraged - never give up! With My help, you can
overcome any obstacle. Do not expect an easy path as you journey hand in
hand with Me, but do remember that I, your very-present Helper, am
omnipotent.
Much, much stress results from your wanting to make things
happen before their times have come. One of the main ways I assert My
sovereignty is in the timing of events. If you want to stay close to Me and
do things My way, ask Me to show you the path forward moment by
moment. Instead of dashing headlong toward your goal, let Me set the
pace. Slow down, and enjoy the journey in My Presence. (Rom. 8:31;
