Psalm 63:1 - The Fuel of Life.

Psalm 63:1 (KJV) O God, thou art my God; 
early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for 
thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and 
thirsty land, where no water is; 

Psalm 63:1 (NLT) O God, you are my God; I 
earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my 
whole body longs for you in this parched and weary 
land where there is no water.  

Psalm 63:1 (CWR) O Lord, you are my God.  I 
seek you.  My soul longs to be in your presence.  
My whole being thirsts for you as a desert 
without water. 

COMMENTARY PEARL

   Tap water is unfit for consumption in 
many countries. When I travel overseas, I either 
run tap water through a portable filter I pack 
or buy bottled water. 
   We can run into serious problems when 
clean drinking water isn't readily available. I 
experienced this while riding a bus during a heat wave 
in Eastern Europe. Assuming I could buy water 
at stops along the way, I'd packed only one 
small bottle. 
   Imagine my chagrin when I discovered that 
the bus's air-conditioning was broken and its 
windows stuck shut. The vehicle's interior heated 
like an oven. Sweat trickled down my face, my 
chest, and my back. In order to avoid dehydration, 
I drank my water more quickly than I'd 
anticipated. As I recall, the bus stopped a couple of 
times so the driver and passengers could take 
cigarette breaks, but only once did we stop at a place 
where we could buy a drink. 
   The ride lasted about five hours. 
Relatively speaking, it's one of the shortest trips 
I've made in that country but by far the most 
difficult. It's the only time I've seriously questioned 
my survival. I grew so weary and discouraged on 
that journey, I could barely muster, "Jesus, help 
me!" 
   Desperation for water and a better 
understanding of its vital role for survival have helped 
me appreciate my need for Jesus, the Living 
Water. Without the salvation He offers and His 
ongoing presence in my life, I'd be spiritually 
parched or worse. He not only brings life - He is 
life. Clearly, I cannot live without Him. by Grace
