Philippians 4:6 - Turning Worry Into Prayer And Worship.
Philippians 4:6 (NIV) Do not be anxious
about anything, but in everything, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to
God.
Philippians 4:6 (JB) There is no need to
worry; but if there is anything you need, pray for
it, asking God for it with prayer and
thanksgiving,
COMMENTARY PEARLS
Worry wont do you any good. But
dont just eliminate it from your life. God always
replaces a negative with a positive. God always has
something better for you.
In the case of worry, replace it with
prayer.
Right after God reminds us not to worry
in Philippians 4:6, he follows it up with this:
In everything, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to God(Philippians
4:6 NIV).
Dont panic, Paul says, but pray!
If you stopped worrying, youd have so
much more free time on your hands. It would
create a great vacuum, a void in your life. Pray
during that time.
If everyone who says they dont have
time to pray would spend their time praying
instead of worrying, theyd have a whole lot less
to worry about.
Notice the Bible says to pray In
everything. Some people think God is only interested in
you praying about religious matters. But
thats just not true. God is interested in
everything in your life.
Also note the word petition. It is a
specific, detailed request. Get specific with God.
Tell him exactly what you want and what you need.
Most people pray too vaguely.
In 1 Peter 5:7 the Bible says, God
cares for you, so turn all your worries over to
him (CEV). God wants us to take our problems to
him, to pray instead of worrying.
I remember a few years ago reading a
study from a life insurance company that found
people who attend church once a week live almost 6
years longer than the general public. Why? Perhaps
people who attend church every week are more likely
to pray than to worry.
No problem is too big for Gods power
or too small for Gods concern. [Daily

Have you ever had one of those days when
nothing goes right? When the odds are stacked
against you, youre overwhelmed, and you wonder if
you should just give up and go back to bed?
When you have a day like that - or maybe
even a year like that - you have two choices: You
can worry, or you can worship.
You cant do both. If youre
worrying, youre not going to worship. If youre
worshiping, youre not going to worry.
Philippians 4:6 says, Dont worry
about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he
has done (NLT).
The antidote to worry is worship - to
pray, praise God, and ask him for what you need.
When many people hear the word
worship, they think of music. Music is one way to
worship. But worship really is an entire lifestyle.
Every aspect of your life can be an act of worship
to God.
For the next several days were going
to look at what it means to worship. Ill
walk you through one of my favorite stories in
the Bible. Its found in the Old Testament
book of 2 Chronicles.
Three enemy nations - the Moabites,
Ammonites, and Meunites - ganged up on King
Jehoshaphat. The king received a report that they were on
their way to fight the nation of Israel.
The odds were three nations against one.
But, instead of worrying, Jehoshaphat chose to
worship by asking God for help: Jehoshaphat was
afraid, so he decided to ask the LORD what to do
(2 Chronicles 20:3 NCV).
His first reaction was fear - and,
considering the odds, fear was reasonable.
The king could have let his fear
intimidate him, discourage him, or cause him to give
up. But, instead, Jehoshaphat let his fear
motivate him to worship through prayer.
And he didnt do it alone. He gathered
others to pray with him: The country of Judah
united in seeking GODs help - they came from all
the cities of Judah to pray to GOD (2
Chronicles 20:4 The Message).
You likely never have had a day when
three nations were united in war against you. But
you have had days when the odds were not in your
favor. And you will again.
When impossible days come, choose to
worship God by asking him to help you. He will
always hear and respond. [Daily Devotional by Rick
