Job 37:14-18 - Stand Still and Consider the Wondrous Works of God.

Job 37:14-18 (NIV) Stop and consider Gods 
wonders. Do you know how God controls the clouds and 
makes his lightning flash? Do you know how the 
clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who has 
perfect knowledge? You who swelter in your clothes 
when the land lies hushed under the south wind, 
can you join him in spreading out the skies  
?  

INTRODUCTION

   Why do the wicked prosper and the 
righteous suffer? Sometimes we need to stop theorizing 
and pontificating and simply listen for a word 
from God. We learn new truths by listening to 
God.  
   Here are some truths from the book of Job 
we must hear: 
      	The Lord gives blessings and 
allows suffering. We aren't to base our  
        relationship with the Lord on His 
gifts or His blessings, but on His  
        character and His love for us (1:21).
      	God is constantly at work all 
around us. Failing to recognize His  
        activity does not negate this 
reality (9:10). 
      	Why should we even think we could 
grasp the full extent of God's  
        wisdom? We are but creatures; He is 
the Creator (11:7). 
      	God's wisdom infinitely exceeds 
our own. It is ludicrous for us to  
        debate Him or judge His actions 
(12:17). 
   We don't need all the answers about the 
wicked prospering and the righteous suffering when 
we know that God has them. After all, when God 
speaks, the power of His word puts our lives and our 
questions instantly into perspective. Our ultimate 
confidence comes from God's Word, not our 
understanding. He is God. We are not. [Being Still With God

COMMENTARY PEARL

   Its the middle of summer, and last 
week the weather forecast called for rain for ten 
days. Invitations to summer fun fell like 
dominoes, parties canceled, outdoor activities 
postponed.  
   And then - you guessed it - it turned out 
that the forecast was gloomier than the reality. 
On most days, rain has been brief or hasnt 
come at all. This morning - at the dawn of the 
weekend of so many canceled events - the sun is 
bright, the birds chirping.  
   Were told that forewarned is 
forearmed, and theres wisdom in that. But Im 
thinking about how Jesus came to preach good news - 
the kind of news that is radically different 
from what people expect from the world. Thats 
the forecast I want to hear and follow!  
   Technology seems to be enhancing 
our lives by increasing the amount of 
information at our fingertips so that we can make better 
decisions. But all that data distracts and deceives us. 
It keeps us from remembering Jesus is in 
control, not us.  
   Meanwhile, Jesus is here with us, right 
now, sharing a very different forecast. Its as 
if Jesus is saying, I have planted the 
answers in your heart, and youll grow into them 
in time. In prayer with Jesus, we can let 
ourselves breathe, let go of our predictions, and ask 
Him to share some good news with us. by
