Ecclesiastes 3:11 - God Has Put Eternity In Our Hearts.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV) He has made
everything beautiful in its time. He has also set
eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom
what God has done from beginning to end.

eternity in the human heart, but even so, people
cannot see the whole scope of Gods work from
beginning to end.
COMMENTARY PEARLS
Hardwired For Happiness
We have the desire for happiness deeply
ingrained within us. In other words, God has hardwired
us to be happy. So where do we find this
happiness?
We wont find it is in this world,
because the world bases happiness on how well things
are going. If things are going reasonably well,
then were happy. If things are not going so
well, then were unhappy.
When you obtain everything, when you have
all your dreams fulfilled, when you reach all
your goals and maybe surpass them, you find how
empty it is. And then you realize that happiness
isnt in those things at all.
I think in many cases, the people you
follow on social media and those you admire or look
up to may have a far more miserable life than
you have.
One Gallup study on the subject of
happiness found that spiritually committed people are
twice as likely to report being very happy than
the least spiritually committed people.
Ill take that a step further: Godly
people will be the happiest people. As the Bible
says, Happy are the people whose God is the
Lord! (Psalm 144:15 NKJV).
C. S. Lewis put it this way: God
designed the human machine to run on Himself. He
Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to
burn, or the food our spirits were designed to
feed on. There is no other. That is why it is
just no good asking God to make us happy in our
own way God cannot give us a happiness and
peace apart from Himself, because it is not there.
There is no such thing.
The more we chase after the Lord, the
more godly well become - and the more well
find the happiness that has eluded us for so

A Better World Ahead
Deep inside us, there is a sense of
something more in life that drives us on. No matter
what experiences youve had, no matter how
wonderful they were, they were just a glimpse of what
is still ahead. You are really homesick for a
place you have never been before, and that place
is Heaven. You were wired this way.
The Bible says that God has put eternity
in our hearts (see Ecclesiastes 3:11). This
simply means there is a sense inside of us that
there is more to life. That is what keeps us
moving forward.
It is sort of like the homing instinct we
see in the animal kingdom, like the salmon
making their way upstream with such determination.
We see it in the way the swallows return every
year to San Juan Capistrano. Its a homing
instinct that drives them.
We have the same thing, but it is a
homing instinct for a place we havent seen yet.
It is a homesickness for Heaven. Until that
day, there is nothing that will completely
satisfy our lives. No matter what happens to us on
Earth, it pales in comparison to this great hope.
The apostle Paul wrote, For our
present troubles are small and wont last very
long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly
outweighs them and will last forever! So we dont
look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we
fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For
the things we see now will soon be gone, but the
things we cannot see will last forever (2
Corinthians 4:17"18 NLT).
This is the hope of the Christian - the
hope of a place called Heaven. There is a better
world ahead. There is something greater than what

CLOSING THOUGHT
It doesn't take a wise person to know
that people long for more than earth. When we see
pain, we yearn. When we see hunger, we question
why. Senseless deaths. Endless tears, needless
loss.
We have our moments. The newborn on our
breast, the bride on our arm, the sunshine on our
back. But even those moments are simply slivers of
light breaking through heaven's window. God flirts
with us. He tantalizes us. He romances us. Those
moments are appetizers for the dish that is to
come.
"No one has ever imagined what God has
prepared for those who love him" (1 Corinthians 2:9)
What a breathtaking verse! Do you see
what it says? Heaven is beyond our imagination...

thought, at our highest level, we still cannot fathom
