John 1:16 - Gods Grace Beyond Measure.
John 1:16 (NKJV) And of His fullness we have
all received, and grace for grace.
John 1:16 (NIV) From the fullness of his
grace we have all received one blessing after
another.
John 1:16 (NLT) From his abundance we have
all received one gracious blessing after
another.
John 1:16 (AMP) For out of His fullness
(abundance) we have all received [all had a share and we
were all supplied with] one grace after another
and spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing
and even favor upon favor and gift [heaped] upon
gift.
COMMENTARY PEARL
I have a student in freshman English who
is sixty years old. He told me he joined the
army to get the GI Bill, so he could go to
college over forty years ago. Instead, he went to
Vietnam. When he came home, he said, he was too
messed up to start college. Hes had a difficult
life but never gave up his dream.
For years, hes been haunted by
nightmares that drove him to alcohol addiction. His
family left him alone on his farm. Finally he got
help and learned he has PTSD. Guess what the cure
is? Get out of isolation. So now, using his GI
Bill, hes in my class.
This guy could focus on everything
thats sad about his story. Just listening to it
brought me to tears. But instead, he chooses to
focus on the new life hes finding after all
these years. He brings an enthusiasm to class that
encourages me. An attitude of gratitude, as the saying
goes. What a difference it makes when one
approaches life through the lens of grace.
Its by grace, he believes, that hes
alive. By grace his family left him because it
forced him to get help. He found grace in the VA
(Veterans Administration). Its by grace that he
found out he has PTSD. And grace that he can do
something to help dispel the darkness in his mind.
This story has helped me to remember that
grace is everywhere. Theres grace for us in
everything. And the source of grace is Jesus. Out of His
fullness, grace flows freely and abundantly forever.

COMMENTARY
Six Biblical Truths about Gods Blessing
or Grace
You probably hear the phrase God bless
you on a regular basis. You may even hear it
daily.
But do you know what a blessing really
is? I dont believe most people do.
It actually means good word.
Dont ever doubt this. God has some really good
words for you.
Ive looked at all of the verses in the
Bible about blessing. As I did, I discovered six
truths related to Gods blessing.
1. God blesses us even though we dont
deserve it. The Bible tells us, Out of the
fullness of his grace he has blessed us all, giving
us one blessing after another (John 1:16
GNT).
2. God blesses us because he enjoys doing
it. Any parent can understand this. We love to
bless our children. So does God. God says in
Jeremiah 32:41: I will enjoy blessing them
(GW).
3. God promises he will bless our lives
if we obey him. Gods promises and his
blessings are not automatic. They are conditional.
Youre not waiting on God to bless you. He is
waiting for you to fulfill the conditions necessary
for your blessing.
4. God blesses us as a witness to others.
God wants to show off his blessing so that other
people can see what a good God he is.
5. God blesses us to bless others. God
doesnt bless you so you can just store up his
blessings and keep them all to yourselves. God blesses
you so you can bless others.
6. Gods blessing can be
multigenerational. God does this over and over throughout the
Bible. For example, the Bible says in Genesis
25:11, After Abrahams death, God blessed his
son Isaac (NIV).
Never forget that God wants to bless you.
Youre not waiting for him. Hes waiting for you!
