Matthew 5:43, 44 - How To Love Your Enemies!

Matthew 5:43, 44 (NIV) You have heard 
that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate 
your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies 
and pray for those who persecute you, 

COMMENTARY PEARL

   She entered the room, waving. Her 
personality grated on my nerves. I didnt like her and 
had no plans to love her.  
   Sitting down beside me, she smiled. 
Can we talk? I trust you.  
   She wanted to talk to me? 
   Jesuss words slammed into my thoughts, 
hitting as fast and hard as the stone from Davids 
slingshot. Love your enemy.  
   I lowered my eyes to the floor. When had 
I come to equate different with bad? Why 
had I focused on our differences instead of our 
similarities? I hurried to beg Jesuss forgiveness.  
   Taking a deep breath, I returned her 
gaze. I continued picking logs from my eyes and 
asked, How can I help? I was suddenly 
surprised to find I truly wanted to help.  
   Well, youre a Christian, right? 
Where do you go to church?  
   Her questions surprised me. Wiping sweaty 
palms on my pants, I shared information about my 
place of worship, and what it means to follow 
Jesus. My heart swelled with purpose.  
   Pastor and speaker Andy Stanley said it 
well. Serving people we dont see eye to eye 
with is the essence of Christianity. Jesus died 
for a world with which He didnt see eye to 
eye.  
   This lady has since joined my church, and 
Ive moved to a new town. Ive learned to love 
people who are different than I am. And they still 
ask, Where do you go to church?  
   I tell them where I go to church, but the 
most important thing I tell them is to go to Him.
