Psalm 119:105 - God's Guidance.
Psalm 119:105 (KJV) Thy word is a lamp unto
my feet, and a light unto my path.
COMMENTARY PEARL
As we search its pages [the Bible], light
enters the heart, illuminating the mind. By this
light we see what we ought to be. If we do not
consult the Guidebook at every step, inquiring, Is
this the way of the Lord? our words and acts will
be tainted by selfishness. We shall forget God,
and walk in paths that He has not chosen for us.
God's Word is full of precious promises and
helpful counsel. It is infallible; for God cannot
err. It has help for every circumstance and
condition of life, and God looks on with sadness when
His children turn from it to human aid. He who
through the Scriptures holds communion with God will
be ennobled and sanctified. As he reads the
inspired record of the Saviour's love, his heart will
melt in tenderness and contrition. He will be
filled with a desire to be like his Master, to live
a life of loving service. ML27
COMMENTARY
Good Decisions Always Agree with Gods Word
When you need to make a decision, the
first and ideal test is this: Is my decision in
harmony with Gods Word?
You have to decide whats going to be
your ultimate authority in life. It really boils
down to this choice: Gods Word or the world.
Are you going to base your decisions on what God
says or what other people say?
If you base your life on popular opinion,
youre always going to be out of date, because it
changes every day. What was in yesterday will
be out today, and whats in today
will be out tomorrow. If you base your life
on popular culture or opinion polls, you will
struggle because youre building on a shifting
foundation!
On the other hand, if you base your life
on Gods Word, the truth never changes. Truth
is always true. So if God says something was
wrong 10,000 years ago, it was also wrong 500
years ago, its wrong today, and it will be
wrong 1,000 years from today. I dont care what
the culture says or what is popular at the time.
If God says its wrong, its wrong. It
always has been, and it always will be. If God says
its right, it will always be right. That is a
solid foundation!
God has set up the universe with certain
laws - physical, moral, and spiritual. God built
the universe around these laws because theyre
all for your benefit. When you cooperate with
the principles in this universe, you succeed. If
you reject, disobey, ignore, and rebel against
Gods principles, youre the one who gets hurt.
With all this in mind, you can be
confident in your decision. If God says its okay,
then you do it. If God says no, then you dont
do it.
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a
light on my path (Psalm 119:105 NIV). [Daily

Make Your Decisions Using the Light of
Gods Word
Theres no doubt about it. Today
were faced with more decisions than ever before.
We live in a multiple-choice culture.
And decisions are significant. Sometimes
even little decisions are like the hinges that
let a giant door swing - they seem so small but
can completely change the direction of your
life.
When I was in college, I decided at the
last minute to go to a meeting. I arrived late
and sat in the back row. The only other person
in that row was a woman named Kay. After the
meeting, I asked her out on a date. And eight days
later we were engaged. A seemingly insignificant
decision shaped the direction of my whole life.
Since decisions matter so much, we must
be wise in how we make them. The book of
Proverbs says: If you want better insight and
discernment learn the importance of reverence for
the Lord and of trusting him He shows how to
distinguish right from wrong, how to find the right
decision every time (Proverbs 2:3-5, 9 TLB).
How do you listen to God when making a
decision? Look at his Word. I like to call this the
Ideal Test. Do your decisions and actions line up
with Gods will? Are they in harmony with
Gods Word?
You have two choices about who your
ultimate authority will be: the world or Gods Word
- what other people say or what God says.
If you base your decisions on current
popular opinion, youll always be on shaky ground
because culture changes every day. On the other
hand, if you base your decisions on Gods Word,
youll have a solid foundation because his truth
never changes.
Recently I went up into the attic of our
house. The attic light had burned out. I was
walking around in the dark and kept bumping my head.
I need a flashlight, I thought.
Sometimes when youre making a
decision, you may feel like youre bumping around in
the dark. Fortunately, Gods given you a
flashlight: the Bible.
Psalm 119:105 says, Your word is a
lamp for my feet, a light on my path (NIV).
And when the light of Gods Word makes
your choice clear, just obey - even if you
dont understand. I dont understand
electricity, but that doesnt stop me from turning on
lights and watching my television. I dont
understand the physics of internal combustion, but I
still drive a car.
You dont need to understand why God
says what he does in the Bible to benefit from
it. You just need to obey his instruction and
follow his principles. He gives his instructions
for your benefit, and youll be blessed as a
result of following them. [Daily Devotional by Rick
Warren: https://pastorrick.com/devotional/]
Sometimes when I'm making decisions about
the future, I wish that God would give me more
information to help make the decision easier. He already
knows the future. Why won't he share more of it
with me? During those times, I try to remind
myself of today's verse from the Psalms.
When we seek him in his Word, God will
often speak to us, prompting us on what steps we
should take next. But if he is offering a lamp to
our feet and light to our path, that may only
help us for a few steps. And no more.
Most of the time we want more details
about the future. However, it would probably be
more than we bargained for. I'm guessing that God
knows we wouldn't deal well with some of the
details if we could see exactly what was coming. If
he had shown me much of what I've had to endure
leading the church, I would not have said yes to
starting it more than two decades ago.
God's grace is always sufficient for
today - or for the moment.
If you ever find yourself wanting more
details, remember that God will show you all you need
to make decisions that honor him. He may
illuminate our path for two or three steps, but he
likely will not show us steps four, five, or six.
We have to take the first few before he'll show
us what to do next.
As I make decisions in my life, Lord, I
will trust you to illuminate the next step I
should take. Forgive me when I want to see more
than you are ready to reveal. I will wait on you
to guide me. [Daily Power by Craig Groeschel]
