1 Peter 5:10 - After You Have Suffered For A Little While
1 Peter 5:10 (ESV) And after you have
suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who
has called you to his eternal glory in Christ,
will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and
establish you.
1 Peter 5:10 (NIV) And the God of all grace,
who called you to his eternal glory in Christ,
after you have suffered a little while, will
himself restore you and make you strong, firm and
steadfast.
1 Peter 5:10 (NLT) In his kindness God
called you to share in his eternal glory by means
of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a
little while, he will restore, support, and
strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm
foundation.
COMMENTARY
A friend confided in me that because of a
bad choice he'd made, his marriage was over, and
he had to step down as senior pastor. He was at
the point of despair and considering ending his
life. He was at a store looking at pistols when he
got a call from a friend who knew about his
circumstances and asked if they could meet. The pastor
agreed.
The pastor's friend invited him to attend
a Celebrate Recovery meeting. He reluctantly
agreed. At an "open share group," he thought, I'll
never share like these guys! This isn't for me.
But God kept drawing him back, and finally the
walls of his heart started to come down. He began
to share his personal struggles and experience
healing.
Today that pastor is whole again because
someone cared enough to invite him to a meeting he
didn't want to attend. He is now the ministry
leader for a Celebrate Recovery group in a church
that has opened its doors wide to embrace the
hurting. It took an act of courage on the part of
both men, but the result was a cycle of healing
and wholeness. Sometimes God asks us to reach
out, and sometimes he asks us to reach up. When
we do, he always meets us with his redeeming
grace and power.
Father, I was lost but you sent someone
to show me the way. Give me the courage to
reach out to others who are hurting. In Jesus'
name, Amen. [Celebrate Recovery Daily Devotional

I took a deep breath as I walked up to
the podium. I was speaking to a group of alumni
at the childrens home where I grew up.
Jesus, please help me get through this speech
without crying. As I looked at the audience, my mind
went totally blank. But despite my fear, Jesus
gave me the words to speak: I never thought I
would be standing here speaking. Many of us have
different memories of growing up here. Our
relationship with Jesus affected who weve become. Some
of us are survivors, others are victims.
My childhood was extremely difficult. My
parents separated before I was born and gave me up
when I was an infant. I was shuffled between
relatives, foster homes, and a childrens home. When
I was grown, I finally realized Jesus had
always been with me and He put good people in my
life to guide me. Jesus used the obstacles of my
childhood to make me stronger. Now I cherish my own
family because of the love I missed growing up.
Jesus restored me and has transformed me into a
determined and compassionate person. He blessed me with
the talent of writing to help others. Over time,
my walk with Jesus has grown more intimate, and
I thank Him for His love and grace.
The tragedies of our past can paralyze
us. Were victims of our circumstances, but
Jesus wants to take those obstacles and struggles
and use them for His glory. Because of the deep,
restorative love of Jesus and His grace, we can move
beyond painful memories. Jesus brings hope and
healing to the deepest wounds of our hearts. by

Thousands of stately old oaks grace the
California coast. Oaks may not have the iconic appeal
of palm trees, but their twisted branches and
gnarled trunks have a rugged beauty all their own -
like trees out of a fairy-tale book. Those bends
and twists tell a story of countless storms
sweeping in off the Pacific and pummeling those
trees. When you see the massive branches, you know
the roots must run deep. So it is with the way
God uses suffering in our lives.
Today's Scripture declares that after we
have suffered a little while, God will make us
strong, firm, and steadfast. But don't imagine you
will be deeply rooted in Christ if you never
experience any storms. It is only "after you have
suffered a little while" that you become strong and
steady in the faith. The wild and windy trials you
face today mean deeper roots and staying power in
the days ahead.
I feel battered by these storms, God. Be
my strength today and keep me rooted in Your
love, rooted in Your Word, rooted in the
confidence that You have a purpose for everything that
happens in my life. I want to draw on Your life
today - from the deepest roots to the tip of my
branches. [A Spectacle of Glory by Joni Eareckson Tada
