Proverbs 3:5, 6 - Trust in The LORD And Lean Not unto Thine Own Understanding.

Proverbs 3:5, 6 (KJV) Trust in the LORD with
all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he
shall direct thy paths.

Proverbs 3:5, 6 (MSG) Trust God from the
bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out
everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in
everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who
will keep you on track.

COMMENTARY PEARL

The emergency room doctor referred me to
an orthopedist after I fell down a staircase.
An MRI of my rotator cuff showed no tears, and
I felt fine, but the doctor recommended a few
weeks of rehab so I could gain range-of-motion
strength. When I walked into the rehab facility - a
room filled with people on crutches and walkers -
I was convinced: Jesus, I don't belong here!
But the therapist ordered stretching exercises
and ultrasound treatments, and I reluctantly got
started.
I hurried through my exercises and left.
I really didn't belong. I felt just fine! As I
hustled out, I ran into Sue, my old tennis coach.
She was there for shoulder rehab but mentioned
her recent bout with breast cancer, so I
promised to pray for her. The next day, while icing
my shoulder, I sat next to Edmond, who was
recovering from knee replacement. We had taught at the
same high school years before and enjoyed
reminiscing.
Later in the week, I exercised near
Carol, a woman whose friend was in hospice. She was
caring for her friend's two cats and knew nothing
about cats, but I did. I gave her advice about
food and cat care. During my ultrasound
treatment, my technician Beth kept wiping her eyes. I
asked whether her allergies were bothering her,
but she said, "No, today is the one-year
anniversary of my son's death. I should be over it by
now." Having lost a son myself, I was able to
reassure her that when grieving the loss of a child,
a year was no time at all. We hugged and
cried. Thank You, Jesus. Maybe I did belong here
after all. Pat Butler Dyson

COMMENTARY

Ah, predicaments Life is full of
them. Sometimes they are of our own making. Other
times they mysteriously happen to us, apart from
anything we caused. Occasionally they are comical and
borderline crazy then, on the other hand, they can
be irritating and troublesome. One thing is for
sure: they're unexpected; we would never have
guessed they would happen. Strangely, predicaments
are unpredictable. And embarrassing. And
confusing. And really weird.
We've all had similar experiences. The
location and the details are different, of course,
but the feelings are the same. How many times
(with tongue in cheek) I've actually prayed, "Dear
Lord, why are you doing this to me?"
Reflect again on Solomon's familiar words:
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do
not depend on your own understanding. Seek his
will in all you do, and he will show you which
path to take. Proverbs 3:5"6
I'm comforted when I realize God is in
sovereign control of all of life. He not only knows
the times and the seasons, He is also Lord of
the unexpected and the unpredictable - that's
why you can trust Him above and beyond how you
see life - how you understand your lot. It's
safe to say that not only your times are in His
hands, but your trials are too, even when you feel
embarrassed or confused by what has transpired. Whether
you're on cloud nine, enjoying His blessings, or
caught in the undertow of some complicated
predicament, He hasn't let you go.
Trust Him. Don't rely on your feelings or
emotions. Acknowledge that He is good and at work.
Quit trying to fit all the pieces together - you
can't. He will show you the path to walk. [Chuck

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

I am calling you to a life of constant
communion with Me. Basic training includes learning to
live above your circumstances, even while
interacting on that cluttered plane of life. You yearn
for a simplified lifestyle, so that your
communication with Me can be uninterrupted. But I
challenge you to relinquish the fantasy of an
uncluttered world. Accept each day just as it comes, and
find Me in the midst of it all.
Talk with Me about every aspect of your
day, including your feelings. Remember that your
ultimate goal is not to control or fix everything
around you; it is to keep communing with Me. A
successful day is one in which you have stayed in touch
with Me, even if many things remain undone at the
end of the day. Do not let your to-do list
(written or mental) become an idol directing your
life. Instead, ask My Spirit to guide you moment
by moment. He will keep you close to Me. (1Th.
5:17; Pro. 3:6) [Jesus Calling by Sarah Young]

In everything you do, put Me first, and I
will direct you and crown your efforts with
success. Putting Me first sounds so simple and
straightforward. But the world, the flesh, and the devil war
against your efforts to do this. You can easily
justify letting other things creep into the space
and time you had set aside for Me. If this
happens only occasionally, it is just part of being
human. However, if you see it becoming a pattern in
your life, watch out! Your priorities may have
been gradually shifting - until I am no longer
your First Love.
Putting Me first is not an arbitrary
rule; it is the way to live vibrantly, joyfully -
close to Me. It is also the way to live
purposefully, letting Me direct your steps. When I am your
top priority, other things fall into their
proper place. So delight yourself in Me first and
foremost. As you walk in the Light of My Presence, I
open up the path before you - and give you the
desires of your heart. (Pro. 3:6; Rev. 2:4; Psa.
37:4; 1Jo. 1:7) [Jesus Today by Sarah Young]
