COMMENTARY PEARLS
Waiting on God
This morning, I spent a long time
reading, rereading, and pondering the subject of
waiting on God. Isaiah promised that those who wait
on God will renew their strength, and they will
be able to run and not become weary (see Isaiah
40:31). In other words, they will be able to do all
that they need to do no matter how difficult it
is and still have strength remaining. This
sounds really good to me, and I am sure that it
also does to you.
We often wear ourselves out running in
our own strength, but it is never sufficient,
because God has created us in such a way that we
need Him. God waits to be wanted, and when He is,
He always comes to our aid and grants us the
ability to do what needs to be done. We can live in
the strength of God if we will take the time to
let Him know that we need Him and refuse to take
action without having first secured His presence
and assistance by faith.
To wait on God is to look for, expect,
and hope in Him. We look to Him to be our
strength, our wisdom, our creativity, and anything
else that we need. Everything we need is in Him;
therefore, if we have sought Him, we have everything
else we need. Jesus said, "Apart from me you can
do nothing" (John 15:5 [NIV]). Take some time
each morning, before beginning any activity, and
sit quietly in Gods presence, whispering to Him
that you need Him, you want Him, and you desire
Him more than any other person or thing. By
faith, wait in His presence and trust that you are
receiving the strength you need for whatever you have
to do that day or for whatever may come up that
you are currently unaware of.
Remember, God waits to be wanted! Seek
Him, for He has promised that those who come to
Him will never be rejected (see John 6:37).
Father, I ask You to forgive me for all
the times I have run in my own strength and
ignored You. I wait on You to grant me strength to
do all that I need to do and to be all that You
want me to be. [My Time with God by Joyce Meyer]
Silence
My favorite part of the day is early in
the morning when I get up before anyone else and
the house is totally silent. I spend that time
with God, and I find that the silence strengthens
me and helps me get focused for the day. I
spend some time just sitting and enjoying it.
Our world today is very noisy, busy, and
at times stressful. When you feel stressed or
frustrated, go somewhere that is silent and just enjoy
it for a few minutes; I believe you will find
that your soul begins to calm down. Inner peace
and quiet are vital for hearing from God or
sensing the direction He wants us to take.
Outer silence helps promote inner
silence. Learn to love silence and you will be more
inclined to hear the still, small voice of God. At a
time when Elijah desperately needed to receive
direction from God, he had to wait until all the noise
passed, and only when he was in a gentle stillness
did he hear the still, small voice of God
speaking to him (see 1 Kings 19:11, 12).
Father, help me learn to love the silence
so I can hear Your voice and sense Your
presence. [My Time with God by Joyce Meyer]
COMMENTARY
Some of the best times in prayer are
wordless times. I stop speaking, close my eyes, and
meditate upon what I have been reading or upon what I
have been saying, and I listen inside of myself.
I listen deeply. I listen for reproofs. I
think of myself as a home with many doors. As I am
meditating - and often it helps to close my eyes so I
won't be distracted - I unlock doors and open them
as I wait. It is here that the Holy Spirit
invades. Then, I take circumstances before Him and I
listen with doors open.
Please be assured that I have never heard
an audible voice. It isn't that kind of
answering. It's a listening down inside. It's sensing
what God is saying about the situation. His
promise is, after all, that He will inscribe His law
- His will - upon our hearts and our minds.
It's like what you do when you're in love
with a person. Isn't it true - the deeper the
love, the less that has to be said? You can
actually sit alone together by a fireplace for an
hour or two and say very, very little, but it can
be the deepest encounter and relationship you
know anything about.
Those who wait upon the Lord will gain
new strength, according to Isaiah, but remember:
the key is waiting.
There's a sense of stability in trusting
the Lord. That's how we wait silently and with a
sense of confidence. When we wait for God to
direct our steps, He does! When we trust Him to
meet our needs, He will!
God tempers us and seasons us, making us
mellow and mature when we wait on Him.
There's a sense of stability in trusting
the Lord. We can wait silently and with a sense
of confidence. [Chuck Swindoll

CLOSING THOUGHT
Some months I get tired just looking
ahead at my schedule. I'm guessing you might
occasionally feel the same way. Work deadlines loom. A
kid gets sick. You've got company coming to
town. The dishes need doing. The yard needs
mowing. And let's not even talk about how bad the
closets look. With kids' activities taking over,
social media to manage, and financial pressure
looming, it's no wonder so many of us feel stressed.
Whenever I face a grueling season, I
always try to make sure I eat healthy, keep working
out when I can, and get decent sleep. That last
one can be tough because my body gets exhausted,
but my mind keeps turning, thinking, and
planning. But I know that if my body doesn't get good
rest, I'm not nearly as productive, not to mention
a lot grouchier.
But I've also discovered that my soul
needs rest too. Have you ever considered that your
soul needs rest on a regular basis just like your
body? It's true. And there's only one place our
souls can find rest: in God's holy presence.
If you're feeling exhausted by all of
life's demands, then hit pause for a moment. Before
you burn out or give in to some temptation that
promises comfort, still your soul before God. Let his
Spirit breathe new life into your heart, your mind,
your body. Today let your soul breathe again.
Lord, my soul finds rest in you alone.
Refresh me with your Spirit and renew my strength
with your power. [Daily Power by Craig

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS
Rest in Me, my child. Give your mind a
break from planning and trying to anticipate what
will happen. Pray continually, asking My Spirit
to take charge of the details of this day.
Remember that you are on a journey with Me. When you
try to peer into the future and plan for every
possibility, you ignore your constant Companion who
sustains you moment by moment. As you gaze anxiously
into the distance, you don't even feel the strong
grip of My hand holding yours. How foolish you
are, My child!
Remembrance of Me is a daily discipline.
Never lose sight of My Presence with you. This
will keep you resting in Me all day, every day.
(1 Th. 5:17; Psa. 62:5) [Jesus Calling by Sarah
Young]
Hold My hand--and trust. So long as you
are conscious of My Presence with you, all is
well. It is virtually impossible to stumble while
walking in the Light with Me. I designed you to
enjoy Me above all else. You find the deepest
fulfillment of your heart in Me alone.
Fearful, anxious thoughts melt away in
the Light of My Presence. When you turn away
from Me, you are vulnerable to the darkness that
is always at work in the world. Don't be
surprised by how easily you sin when you forget to
cling to My hand. In the world, dependency is seen
as immaturity. But in My kingdom, dependence on
Me is a prime measure of maturity. (Isa. 41:10;
Psa. 62:5, 6) [Jesus Calling by Sarah Young]
Stop your incessant worry-planning! Draw
your mind back from the future to the present
moment, where My Presence lovingly awaits you. Seek
My Face with a smile in your heart, knowing
that I take delight in you. Talk with Me about
all that concerns you and the tasks that are
weighing on you. Call out to Me for help as you set
priorities according to My will. Then keep returning
your focus to Me and to the work at hand.
Inviting Me into your activities increases your Joy
and helps you to be more effective.
When you need to take a break, remember
that I am your resting place. My everlasting arms
are always available to support you and hold you
close. When you relax in My company - waiting with
Me for a time - this demonstrates genuine trust
in Me. As you prepare to return to your tasks,
make the effort to include Me in your plans. This
protects you from worrying; it also helps you stay
close to Me, enjoying My Presence. (Luk. 12:25,
26; Psa. 62:5, 6; Deu. 33:27) [Jesus Always by
