Hebrews 1:14 - Angels at Work.
Hebrews 1:14 (NIV) Are not all angels
ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit
salvation?
INTRODUCTION
Angels are God's messengers, spiritual
beings created by God and under his authority
(Colossians 1:16). They have several functions: serving
believers (1:14), protecting the helpless (Matthew
18:10), proclaiming God's messages (Revelation
14:6-12), and executing God's judgment (Acts 12:1-23;
Revelation 20:1-3). [Life Application SB]
COMMENTARY PEARL
All around us theres a supernatural
world, an invisible world. And around us right now
are thousands of mysterious created beings
called angels. Most of them are holy. (And Im
sorry to say that some of them are not. Some are
fallen angels.)
The Bible mentions angels in both the Old
and the New Testament. In fact, it contains
nearly 300 mentions of them.
However, angels work undercover, a little
like the Navy SEALs. They dont draw attention
to themselves; they just get the job done. And
theyre not around so we can have extended
conversations with them. Theyre very interesting
creatures who work behind the scenes.
We can find a number of instances in the
Bible where angels intervened. For example, the
book of Acts tells us that an angel spoke to
Philip and directed him to go to the desert. Philip
went, and God used him to help a man from Ethiopia
come to faith.
In Acts, we have the story of Peter, who
was taken to prison. King Herod already had put
James to death, so the church prayed, and God sent
an angel at night to wake up Peter and lead him
out of the jail.
Angels have a specific ministry in the
lives of Christians. God dispatches them from
Heaven to assist us, to encourage us, to minister
to us, and to even protect us. Hebrews 1:14
says of them, Are they not all ministering
spirits sent forth to minister for those who will
inherit salvation? (NKJV)
So, you can be confident of this: you
have angels actively involved in your life.
Sometimes, we dont realize this is a
spiritual world, and we get caught up in other things
and forget that were children of the Most
High. Our kingdom is in Heaven. And were

COMMENTARY
The angels of God are ever passing from
earth to heaven, and from heaven to earth. The
miracles of Christ for the afflicted and suffering
were wrought by the power of God through the
ministration of the angels. And it is through Christ, by
the ministration of His heavenly messengers,
that every blessing comes from God to us. DA143
In this speck of a world the whole
heavenly universe manifests the greatest interest,
for Christ has paid an infinite price for the
souls of its inhabitants. The worlds Redeemer
has bound earth to heaven by ties of
intelligence, for the redeemed of the Lord are here.
Heavenly beings still visit the earth as in the days
when they walked and talked with Abraham and with
Moses. Amid the busy activity of our great cities,
amid the multitudes that crowd the thoroughfares
and fill the marts of trade where from morning
till evening the people act as if business and
sport and pleasure were all there is to life,
where there are so few to contemplate unseen
realities"even here heaven has still its watchers and its
holy ones. There are invisible agencies observing
every word and deed of human beings. In every
assembly for business or pleasure, in every gathering
for worship, there are more listeners than can
be seen with the natural sight. Sometimes the
heavenly intelligences draw aside the curtain which
hides the unseen world that our thoughts may be
withdrawn from the hurry and rush of life to consider
that there are unseen witnesses to all we do or
say.
We need to understand better than we do
the mission of the angel visitants. It would be
well to consider that in all our work we have the
co-operation and care of heavenly beings. Invisible
armies of light and power attend the meek and lowly
ones who believe and claim the promises of God.
Cherubim and seraphim and angels that excel in
strength"ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of
thousands"stand at His right hand, all ministering
spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be
heirs of salvation. Hebrews 1:14. COL176
As you open your door to Christs needy
and suffering ones, you are welcoming unseen
angels. You invite the companionship of heavenly
beings. They bring a sacred atmosphere of joy and
peace. They come with praises upon their lips, and
an answering strain is heard in heaven. DA639
