Deuteronomy 10:21 - Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow.

Deuteronomy 10:21 (NIV) He is the one you 
praise; he is your God, who performed for you those 
great and awesome wonders you saw with your own 
eyes.  

   Higgins Lake in the center of the 
Michigan "mitten" is our favorite place. We've come 
here since our boys' beginnings. 
   Today we're all together. My husband, 
Lonny, our five sons, and me. We walk along the 
spring-fed lake until we find the spot where frigid 
water bubbles from the sand and foliage yawns to 
expose a watery, pebbled path. 
   We walk fast up the stream, the water so 
cold it needles our skin. One boy slips and 
another reaches to help. One finds a rock smooth for 
skipping and hunkers down to retrieve it. Soon, low 
limbs that behave as bridges hold several sons and 
they tightrope-walk over the water. 
   Lonny takes my hand. We stand in moss as 
lush as carpet, and suddenly my soul opens wide. 
I'd walked in with plenty of worry. Life is full 
of uncertainty - from jobs to schools to 
selling the home we'd recently moved from. But here 
there is room for none of that. There is only room 
for worship. 
   Heaven shines in gold patches through a 
green canopy. My boys play, and praise flows like 
water. 
   Lord, You are kind. You are the giver of 
good things like the beauty of this secret space. 
You've brought such healing to my family. You are 
powerful. You are compassionate. 
   I've heard it said that the act of 
worship shouldn't be limited to Sunday mornings, and 
I understand this because what I feel here 
can't be bordered by brick. 
   The creek ripples and rushes. Birds sing. 
Trees rustle. Brothers laugh and live. And my soul 
joins this song.
