Psalm 107:1 - THANKSGIVING!

Psalm 107:1 (NIV) Give thanks to the LORD, 
for he is good; his love endures forever.  

COMMENTARY PEARL

   I'm implementing a new practice for 
Thanksgiving. No, I'm not going to try to convince these 
Midwesterners that oysters really do belong in authentic 
turkey stuffing. My idea is to tweak our tradition 
of each naming one thing or person we're 
thankful for. 
   Today, I want to also spend time alone 
thanking Him for restoring joy to situations I 
thought held none, for seeing me through 
disappointments and concerns that threatened to unravel the 
tightly intertwined fabric of faith He created in 
me. Circumstances seem to work hard to poke 
holes in our very souls, as if those events and 
crises could drain every drop of joy and empty us. 
   It feels that way sometimes. But 
reflecting on them now, I'm conscious that 
disappointments and crises did not succeed. Some of the 
trials still exist, but true joy cannot be crippled 
or permanently disabled for the person whose 
hope is rooted in Jesus. 
   I have so much for which to be thankful. 
A crisis from ten years ago is resolved. 
Concerns that disturbed my sleep five years ago have 
dissipated. The hurt that stung so hard last week turned 
into a bridge to a deeper relationship. The "joy 
stealers" lying in ambush along the way of my career 
and family and ministry were unsuccessful in 
their attempts ... because of Jesus. 
   Yes, I have much for which to be
