2 Corinthians 5:7 - Live By Faith And Not By Feeling.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV) We live by faith,
not by sight.
COMMENTARY PEARL
"How do you like my office?" Allison
asked. Surrounded by the freshness of a newly
painted room, I said, "I like it a lot." I love
blue, and the walls were a soothing shade of my
favorite color. Allison and her husband are eye
doctors. I was there to help with a business issue.
My eyes were quickly drawn to the words
on a new wall hanging behind Allison's desk,
For We Walk by Faith, Not by Sight. I especially
liked how the words were arranged like an eye
chart, with a very large font at the top
progressing to smaller fonts on each subsequent line. I
first wondered why she didn't choose Matthew 6:22,
"The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore
your eye is good, your whole body will be full of
light" (NKJV) - words that emphasize the importance
of proper eye care. Then the deeper truth of 2
Corinthians 5:7 struck me. Think about how much of our
lives we live in the darkness of the unknown -
times when we are dealing with a career change,
health issue, financial struggle, or relocation,
times when even with perfect physical vision, we
can't see the outcome.
As my wife, Pat, and I downsized to a
smaller home this year, we faced many unknowns and
unexpected developments. With each new encounter we did
our best to make the right choice. We wouldn't
know how it worked out until we began living with
our choices. The words in Allison's office from
2 Corinthians 5:7 had inspired me to seek
God's guidance in making each decision and leave
the results to Him.
Dear God, thank You for being our eyes
through stretches of life where human eyes are not
enough. Teach us to surrender the outcome and trust
that You are working for our good. Amen. John
