Psalm 51:10-12 - Getting Right With God.
Psalm 51:10-12 (ESV) Create in me a clean
heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence, and
take not your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to
me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me
with a willing spirit.

God Turns Messes into Masterpieces
One day, God had a message for a prophet
named Jeremiah. He told him to go to a potter's
house and watch the potter make clay pots.
As Jeremiah watched the potter molding
and fixing the clay, he noticed something:
"Whenever the pot the potter was working on turned out
badly, as sometimes happens when you are working
with clay, the potter would simply start over and
use the same clay to make another pot" (Jeremiah
18:4 The Message).
After Jeremiah saw this object lesson, God
gave him a message for Israel: Watch this
potter. In the same way that this potter works his
clay, I work on you (Jeremiah 18:6 The
Message).
You may have really made a mess of your
life. Your pot is scarred from poor
decisions that you made and things that were done to
you. As a result, your life has not turned out as
you intended.
But you are the clay; youre not the
potter. God is the potter, and he doesn't discard
clay that's been misshapen by circumstances. He
doesn't waste the pain that you've been through.
God doesn't throw out the personality and
the essence of who he created you to be.
Instead, he takes every part of you - the good, the
bad, and the ugly. He puts it all in his gentle
but strong hands. And then he starts over with
shaping your life, applying pressure at just the
right places to mold you and remake you into a
beautiful, priceless piece of art.
That's what happens when you surrender
yourself completely to God's loving hands.
God specializes in fresh starts. You can
have a new beginning today, simply by starting
with King Davids prayer in Psalm 51:10: "God,
make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week
from the chaos of my life" (The Message).
It's never too late to start over. Bring
whatever chaos is in your life to God, the Great
Potter. Trust him to do a new work in your life.

COMMENTARY
Continuous Cleansing
Billy Graham says Christian believers are
human and vulnerable to sin and asks, "Why can't
we simply admit it?" He points out no one lives
without occasional sin, and though we must never
grow complacent, "It is hypocritical to say
otherwise."
Billy has plenty of support in Scripture
that speaks to this complex issue. Paul admits in
Romans he does what he hates, and John says if we
say we don't sin we lie. Yet many other verses
proclaim that we can have victory over sin. It's a
lifelong struggle, and it's worth a thoughtful look
at Scripture.
God's law was given so that all
people could see how sinful they were.
But as people sinned more and more,
God's wonderful grace became more
abundant. So just as sin ruled over
all people and brought them to death,
now God's wonderful grace rules
instead, giving us right standing with God
and resulting in eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord ....
Well then, should we keep on
sinning so that God can show us more and
more of his wonderful grace? Of course
not! Since we have died to sin, how
can we continue to live in it? ...
Do not let sin control the way you
live; do not give in to sinful
desires. Instead, give yourselves
completely to God, for you were dead,
but now you have new life.... You live
under the freedom of God's grace.
(Romans 5:20-21; 6:1-2, 12-14, NLT)
The apostle John writes in his first
epistle, "If we are living in the light, as God is in
the light, then we have fellowship with each
other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us
from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are
only fooling ourselves and not living in the
truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to
cleanse us from all wickedness" (1 John 1:7-9, NLT).
Billy Graham says his wife, Ruth,
reminded him that people who lived in the mountains
near where the Grahams live used to put laundry
in wooden cradles and then place them in a
running creek for continuous cleansing.
Continuous cleansing. Something we all
need.
Lord, you know everything about me,
including all my thoughts and deeds. Let your
cleansing stream flow through me so that what I see
and what I think become fully in harmony with
your thoughts and perspectives. [The One Year
Book of Encouragement by Harold Myra]
