Ephesians 6:15 (NLT) For shoes, put on the 
peace that comes from the Good News so that you 
will be fully prepared.

COMMENTARY PEARL

   We have a rug for shoes near our front 
door. Whenever my hubby and I leave the house, we 
grab the appropriate footwear. In the summer I 
have gardening clogs and sandals on that rug. In 
the winter, my warm boots wait for me. 
   Today as I slid my feet into slip-ons to 
take out the recycling, I thought about how 
important it can be to choose the right shoes. Each 
day, as I set out into the world, I have a choice 
to wear the ill-fitting clodhoppers of worry, 
anger, or selfishness. Or I can wear the spiritual 
armor that Jesus provides, with shoes that support 
an attitude of peace. 
   We can use our entrances and exits from 
our home as a place of remembering. Everywhere 
we go, we carry with us the good news. Jesus 
has come. His death and resurrection offer its 
forgiveness and salvation. And with each task we take 
on, we can follow in His footsteps. As we lace 
up tennis shoes or wriggle into church shoes, 
we can ask Jesus to help us walk the path of 
peace He has set before us, alert to anyone who 
needs to hear His good news. When we return home 
and take off our shoes, we can rejoice that our 
bare feet are always standing on holy ground - 
because we are always in His presence. Sharon Hinck

COMMENTARY

Believers also need special "shoes" - the 
readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. The 
Word of God is the gospel, or Good News, that 
brings peace. In other words, believers are ready 
for battle because "the peace of God, which 
surpasses all understanding, will guard [their] hearts 
and minds through Christ Jesus" (Phil 4:7 NKJV). 
They can stand firm, with peace, even in 
hand-to-hand combat, because they know that they are 
doing right and that they are on the winning side. 
Christians are in the battle both with the inner peace 
Christ has already given and the desire to produce 
that peace in the hearts of others. This can only 
happen as they share this "gospel of peace" with 
those who have not yet heard and accepted it.

Present the Truth Tenderly - Let every 
minister learn to wear the gospel shoes. He who is 
shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace 
will walk as Christ walked. He will be able to 
speak right words, and to speak them in love. He 
will not try to drive home Gods message of 
truth. He will deal tenderly with every heart, 
realizing that the Spirit will impress the truth on 
those who are susceptible to divine impressions. 
Never will he be vehement in his manner. Every 
word spoken will have a softening, subduing 
influence. EV174 

The soldiers shoes are not the dancing 
slippers of this world or the lounging slippers of 
the slothful, but the shoes of the Christian 
warrior who knows Christ and makes Him known.
