COMMENTARY PEARL
Trust Crowds Out Worry
You cannot stop a baby's cry by giving
him a rattle when he is hungry. He will keep on
crying until his hunger is satisfied by the food
his little body demands. Neither can the soul of
a mature person be satisfied apart from God.
David described the hunger of every human being
when he said: "As the deer pants for the water
brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God" (Ps.
42:1).
Two conflicting forces cannot exist in
one human heart. When doubt reigns, faith cannot
abide. Where hatred rules, love is crowded out.
Where selfishness rules, there love cannot dwell.
When worry is present, trust cannot crowd its way
in.
In the same way, God will not share His
rightful place in our lives with anything or anyone
less than Himself. Is anything crowding God out
of your heart today? Don't give first place to
anything less than Christ, but "commit your way to
the Lord."
Are you prone to worry? Quick to become
angry? Generally impatient? Perhaps it's time to
put Christ back in control and allow the fruit
of His spirit to fill every nook and cranny of
your heart. [Hope for Each Day by Billy Graham]
INTRODUCTION
Commitment is the beginning of trusting God.
David calls us to take delight in the Lord and to
commit everything we have and do (our "way") to
him. But how do we do this? To 'delight' in
someone means to experience great pleasure and joy
in his or her presence. This happens only when
we know that person well. Thus, to delight in
the Lord, we must know him better. Knowledge of
God's great love for us will indeed give us
delight. To 'commit' ourselves to the Lord means
entrusting everything - our lives, families, jobs,
possessions - to his control and guidance. To commit
ourselves to the Lord means to trust in him (37:5),
believing that he can care for us better than we can
ourselves. We should be willing to wait patiently
(37:7) for him to work out what is best for us.

COMMENTARY
How to Hold On
Job was a man who certainly knew trouble
and temptation, and yet he boldly claimed,
"Though He slay me, I will hope in Him" (Job 13:15).
That is commitment. Job had lost his children,
his fortune, and his health, but he refused to
abandon faith in God. The stricken man was
determined to hold on because he trusted the Lord to do
right.
Unwavering commitment to trust the Lord
in all situations is a cornerstone of
unshakable faith. From the vantage point of that
foundation, we can focus our eyes upon God alone. It is
easy to be distracted by circumstances and allow
them to dictate our emotions. But if that's the
case, then when life is good, we're happy; when
times are tough, we're frustrated; and when
hardship pours in, we're downright miserable and
looking for escape.
Unlike Job, we are fortunate to have
Scripture, which reveals God's nature and promises. And
it is a wise believer who claims those promises
when enduring hardship. For His Word tells us
that our Father is always good, always just,
always faithful, and always trustworthy. When we
take our eyes off the whirl of day-to-day
activity and concentrate on honoring Him and
following in His way, we find a consistent peace that
carries us through both plenty and poverty.
In order to hold on to God through any
trial or temptation, commit to trust and follow
Him all of your days. Lay claim to His promises:
The unchanging Lord and Savior (Heb. 13:8) is
committed to caring for you in all circumstances (1
Peter 5:7) and will never leave or forsake you
(Heb. 13:5). [In Touch Daily Devotional by Charles

CLOSING THOUGHT
It takes time for God to color a rose or to
grow a great oak tree. And it takes time for Him
to make bread from wheat fields. He takes the
soil, then grinds and softens it. He enriches it
and wets it with rain showers and with dew. Then
He brings the warmth of life to the small blade
of grass, later grows the stalk and the amber
grain, and finally provides bread for the hungry.
All this takes time. Therefore we sow the seed,
till the ground, and then wait and trust until
God's purpose has been fulfilled. We understand
this principle when it comes to planting a field,
and we need to learn the same lesson regarding
our prayer life. It often takes time for God to
answer prayer. J. H. M. [Streams In The Desert By
