1 Peter 3:15 - Sharing Jesus.
1 Peter 3:15 (KJV) But sanctify the Lord God
in your hearts: and be ready always to give an
answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the
hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
1 Peter 3:15 (NIV) But in your hearts set
apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give
an answer to everyone who asks you to give the
reason for the hope that you have. But do this with
gentleness and respect,
COMMENTARY PEARL
If only I had a nickel for every time
I've asked someone, young or old, this question:
"What new thing has Jesus been impressing on your
heart?" (Yet I am a rich woman because, as I've
listened to the answers, the bank account of my faith
has swelled.)
I've learned to pause and listen if the
person I'm talking to doesn't have an immediate
answer. Almost always, she eventually thinks of
something. She reports that she's learning the real
meaning of endurance. Or that Jesus is showing her
new ways to cope with a hard-to-love coworker or
an out-of-sorts friend. Or she'll share a Bible
verse that won't leave her alone. Or she'll smile
and say she's finally getting the hang of this
contentment business.
If the answer is, "Nothing," then I let
the person know I'll ask again next week. It's
been a joy to watch that person seek me out the
next time our paths cross, her eyes excited, to
report what Jesus showed her or how she'd trusted
Him with a sticky situation.
I also have to make sure that my "God
stories" don't get dusty. I may have plenty to say
about what Jesus did in my life over the last
several decades - and for all those things I give
thanks and praise - but I serve a living Savior. My
relationship with Him is present tense. I want to be
aware of what Jesus is doing this week, this day,
this hour in my life, so I can always be prepared
to give an answer for the hope I have. Cynthia

COMMENTARY
Some Christians believe that faith is a
personal matter that should be kept to oneself. It is
true that we shouldn't be boisterous or obnoxious
in sharing our faith, but we should always be
ready to give an answer, gently and respectfully,
when asked about our faith, our life-style, or
our Christian perspective. Can others see your
hope in Christ? Are you prepared to tell them
what Christ has done in your life? [Life
Application SB]
Great wisdom is required in dealing with
human minds, even in giving a reason of the hope
that is within us. What is the hope of which we
are to give a reason? The hope of eternal life
through Jesus Christ. EV247
We are to be ready always to give a reason
for the hope that is in us. If the worker keeps
his heart uplifted in prayer, God will help him
to speak the right word at the right time.
GW120
Those who have searched the Scriptures may
ever be fortified against the temptations of
Satan; they may be thoroughly furnished to all good
works and prepared to give to every man that
asketh them a reason of the hope that is in them.

CLOSING THOUGHT
If the love of God flows through us, we will
find ourselves sharing that love with those
around us, for God is love, and that love is bigger
than its container, the Christian, so it must
overflow. Al Bryant [Time with God SB]
