John 4:23, 24 - Serve, Worship and Live for God in Spirit and Truth.
John 4:23, 24 (NIV) Yet a time is coming and
has now come when the true worshipers will
worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are
the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is
spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit
and in truth."
John 4:23, 24 (CEV) But a time is coming,
and it is already here! Even now the true
worshipers are being led by the Spirit to worship the
Father according to the truth. These are the ones
the Father is seeking to worship him. God is
Spirit, and those who worship God must be led by the
Sprit to worship him according to the truth.
COMMENTARY PEARL
God Never Changes
I was reared in a small Presbyterian
church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Before I was
ten years of age, my mother made me memorize the
"Shorter Catechism," a summary of basic Christian
beliefs in the form of questions and answers. In the
catechism we were asked to define God. The answer we
learned was, "God is a Spirit - infinite, eternal,
and unchangeable."
Those three words beautifully describe
God. He is infinite - not body-bound. Eternal -
He has no beginning and no ending. He is
unchangeable - never changing, never capricious, never
unreliable. As the Bible says, with God "there is no
variation or shadow of turning" (James 1 17). He is
forever self-existent.
People change, fashions change,
conditions and circumstances change, but God never
changes. His love never changes. His holiness never
changes. His purpose never changes. His glory never
changes. He is the same yesterday, today, and
forever.
Can you think of any reason not to trust
Him? Neither can I!
Thank you, God, that I don't have to
wonder if you still love me, if you're still good,
or if you are still in control. Because of
this, I can trust you no matter what comes my way.
