COMMENTARY PEARL
Circumstances cannot shake a strong
foundation of faith.
In a tumultuous world, where can
stability be found? We cant count on political
leaders, financial institutions, healthcare
providers, or any other human institution to keep us
safe and secure. There is only one sure
foundation, and that is the Lord our God.
David, who wrote todays psalm, lived
with many dangers and trials. But he knew that
with God as his stronghold, he would not be
deeply shaken by earthly events. And that is true
for anyone who knows Jesus Christ as Lord and
Savior. Hes characterized by love, justice, and
faithfulness in His interactions with us. We can have
great confidence because our God is self-existent
and unchangeable. He knows all things, has all
power, and is present everywhere.
Is your faith grounded on these truths
about your Rock? Do you believe God is completely
dependable in His dealings with you? Can you trust that
He loves you during hard times when youre
still waiting for prayers to be answered? Do you
accept that His guidance is based on His unlimited
knowledge and love for you, even when you dont
understand or like His choices for your life? This is
what constitutes a strong foundation of faith.

COMMENTARY
Devoted to God
Having been saved by faith in Christ, we
express our love and gratitude through devotion to
Him. Regular Bible study and prayer will be an
integral part of our daily lives. In addition, our
commitment to the Lord will be revealed through a
passion to obey, a spirit of humility, and a
servant's heart.
1. Obedience. David sought to obey God
all his life. As a shepherd boy, he faithfully
tended the animals in his father's fields. While
king, he set aside his desire to build the temple
and let Solomon lead the effort, as God had
commanded. Although David lived imperfectly, his desire
was to do what the Lord asked. We see from
Jesus' words in John 14:15 that obedience should be
our high priority as well: He said, "If you love
Me, you will keep My commandments."
2. Humility. After David killed Goliath,
the crowds shouted praise about the young man.
However, he did not become prideful. Instead, he
remained in King Saul's service and waited for God to
make him the ruler of Israel. Even as king, he
remained humble. He knew that what had been
accomplished was because of the Lord's actions and not
his own (2 Sam. 7:18).
3. Service. Whether David was a lowly
shepherd or a mighty king, his goal was to obey God
and serve Him.
This man after God's own heart was
devoted to his Lord. He sought to know Him and
longed to carry out His will. David's actions
reflected His humble attitude of servanthood and his
longing to please his heavenly Father. Take steps
each day to be sure your life expresses
commitment to Jesus. [In Touch Daily Devotional by

Silent Adoration
When man in his littleness and God in His
glory meet, we all understand that what God says
has infinitely more worth than what man says.
Yet our prayers so often consist of telling God
what we need that we give Him no time to speak to
us. Our prayers are often so indefinite and
vague. It is a great lesson to learn, that to be
silent before God is the secret of true adoration.
Let us remember the promise: "In quietness and
in confidence shall be your strength" (Isaiah
30:15).
"My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my
expectation is from him." "I wait for the Lord, my soul
doth wait, and in his word do I hope" (Psalm
130:5).
As the soul bows before Him, to remember
His greatness, His holiness, His power, and His
love, and as it seeks to give Him the honor,
reverence, and worship that are His due, the heart will
be opened to receive the divine impression of
the nearness of God and of the working of His
power.
O Christian, believe that such worship of
God is the sure way to give Him the glory that
is His due, and will lead to the highest
blessedness that can be found in prayer.
Do not imagine that such worship is time
lost. Do not turn from it if at first it appears
difficult. Be assured that it brings you into the right
relation with God. It opens the way to fellowship
with Him. It leads to the blessed assurance that
He is looking upon you in tender love and is
working in you with divine power. As you become more
accustomed to it, it will give you the sense of His
presence abiding with you all day long. It will make
you strong to testify for God. Men will begin to
feel that you have been with God. Someone once
said, "No one is able to influence others for
goodness and holiness beyond the amount of God that
is in him."
"But the Lord is in his holy temple: let
all the earth keep silence before him" (Habakkuk
2:20). [Andrew Murray 365-Day Devotional Bible by
Barbour]
CLOSING THOUGHT
God Alone Knows Our Future
The longer we walk with the Lord, the
more we realize that we really don't know what
each new day may bring. A phone call can come in
the middle of the night shattering our joy.
Suddenly everything changes. It's amazing what a
knock at the door can bring or what the opening of
a letter can do.
I don't say these things to conjure up
fear in our hearts, but simply to remind us that
God alone knows our future. And there's no
safer, no better, no more rewarding place to be
than in the nucleus of His will, regardless of
where that may be.
We are only finite human beings. We can
only see the present and the past. The future is
a little frightening to us. So we need to hold
on to His hand and trust Him to calm our fears.
And at those times when we're stubborn and
resisting and God shakes us by the shoulders to get
our attention, we're reminded that we don't call
the shots, God has a plan for us, mysterious
though it may seem, and we want to be in the center
of it.
All the risks notwithstanding, the center
of His will is still the safest place on earth
to be.
There's no more rewarding place to be
than in the nucleus of Gods will, regardless
of where that may be. [Chuck Swindoll

Invincible Jesus,
You are the culmination of all my hopes
and desires. You are the Alpha and the Omega,
the Beginning and the End, who is and who was
and who is to come - the Almighty. Before I knew
You, I expressed my longing for You in harmful
ways. I didn't realize that You were the One I was
searching for, and I was ever so vulnerable to the
evil around me in the world. But now Your
Presence safely shields me, enfolding me in Your
loving care. You have lifted me out of darkness
into Your marvelous Light.
Though You have brought many pleasures
into my life, not one of them is essential. Help
me to receive Your blessings with open hands -
enjoying Your good gifts while holding them lightly.
I don't want to cling to anything but You.
As I keep turning my attention to the
Giver of every good and perfect gift, I rest in
the knowledge that in You I am complete. I
rejoice that the one thing I absolutely need is the
one thing I can never lose - Your Presence with
me!
In Your magnificent Name, Amen (Psalm
62:5; Revelation 1:8 AMPC; 1 Peter 2:9 NKJV; James
1:17) [Jesus Listens by Sarah Young]
