1 Peter 5:10 - After You Have Suffered For A Little While
1 Peter 5:10 (NIV) And the God of all grace,
who called you to his eternal glory in Christ,
after you have suffered a little while, will
himself restore you and make you strong, firm and
steadfast.
INTRODUCTION
When we are suffering, we often feel as
though our pain will never end. Peter gave these
faithful Christians the wider perspective. In
comparison with eternity, their suffering would last
only "a little while." Some of Peter's readers
would be strengthened and delivered in their own
lifetimes. Others would be released from their
suffering through death. All of God's faithful
followers are assured of an eternal life with Christ
where there will be no suffering (Rev. 21:4).

COMMENTARY PEARL
When we moved from West Virginia to
Florida, Pierce was nine and Isaac was six. Isaac,
who's easygoing, made the transition overnight.
Pierce, however, was miserable. West Virginia was
the only home he had ever known, with his
friendships forged in infancy there. Pierce was
inconsolable, angry, and sad. Though a bright student, he
struggled with the more demanding schoolwork. Even
though I'd prayed about the move and it came
together effortlessly, I wondered if I'd made an
awful mistake that had irreparably damaged
Pierce's psyche. I prayed for relief and urged Pierce
to pray too.
Pierce, who's social and fun, made
friends quickly, yet his homesickness persisted. A
few months passed, and Pierce remained mildly
gloomy. My heart ached. Then suddenly, the clouds
parted, and Pierce emerged from his sadness. From
time to time, the homesickness would flare again,
then quickly subside. Soon, Pierce came to both
remember West Virginia fondly and see Florida as
perfect for our family, which it is.
Sometimes Jesus leads me someplace and I
follow, only to find it's so hard that I fear I've
made a mistake. This is when faith comes in. As
the old adage says, "If He leads you to it, He
will lead you through it." Believe it. Isabella
