Mark 5:33 - Faith unto Salvation.

Mark 5:33 (CEV) The woman knew what had 
happened to her. She came shaking with fear and knelt 
down in front of Jesus. Then she told him the 
whole story.  

INTRODUCTION

This woman had a seemingly incurable 
condition causing her to bleed constantly. This may 
have been a menstrual or uterine disorder that 
would have made her ritually unclean (Leviticus 
15:25-27) and excluded her from most social contact. 
She desperately wanted Jesus to heal her, but 
she knew that her bleeding would cause Jesus to 
be unclean under Jewish law if she touched him. 
Sometimes we feel that our problems will keep us from 
God. But he is always ready to help, no matter 
how impossible the problem seems to us. We 
should never allow our fear to keep us from 
approaching him. [Life Application SB] 

COMMENTARY PEARL

The Rarest of Gifts
   A desperate woman once came to see Jesus. 
She was out of doctors, money, and hope. Then 
Jesus came to town. He was on his way to treat the 
daughter of the synagogue leader. The crowd was 
thick, but she was desperate. Threading her arm 
through the crowd, she reached the hem of his 
garment. And when she touched the hem of him, the 
bleeding stopped. "'Who touched me?' Jesus asked" 
(Luke 8:45). The woman shrank back. But Jesus said 
it again. And this time she spoke up. She told 
him the whole story. 
   How long had it been since someone had 
listened to her story? Jesus had reason not to do so. 
The crowd was waiting, a girl was dying, but 
Jesus? He stopped and listened. The miracle 
restored her health. The listening restored her 
dignity. And what he did next, the woman never 
forgot. He called her daughter" (Luke 8:48 NKJV). 
This is the only time in the Gospels that he 
called a woman by that name.

COMMENTARY

To the curious crowd pressing about Jesus 
there was imparted no vital power. But the 
suffering woman who touched Him in faith received 
healing. So in spiritual things does the casual 
contact differ from the touch of faith. To believe 
in Christ merely as the Saviour of the world 
can never bring healing to the soul. The faith 
that is unto salvation is not a mere assent to 
the truth of the gospel. True faith is that 
which receives Christ as a personal Saviour. MH62

CLOSING PEARL

It was virtually impossible to get close to 
Jesus, but one woman fought her way desperately 
through the crowd in order to touch him. As soon as 
she did, she was healed. What a difference 
between the crowds who are curious about Jesus and 
the few who reach out and touch him! Today, many 
people are vaguely familiar with Jesus, but nothing 
in their lives is changed or bettered by this 
passing acquaintance. It is only faith that releases 
God's healing power. Move beyond curiosity. Reach 
out to Christ in faith. That touch will change
