Psalm 9:1 - Finding True Joy Found Only in Jesus.

Psalm 9:1 (NIV) I will praise you, O LORD,
with all my heart; I will tell of all your
wonders.

Psalm 9:1 (NLT) I will praise you, LORD,
with all my heart; I will tell of all the
marvelous things you have done.

COMMENTARY PEARL

When people learn that I live on a boat,
they often ask where! get drinking water. I
explain that the city supplies it and that we use a
hose reserved for only that purpose to gain
access to it. One end of the hose connects to a
spigot on the dock. We insert the other end through
a deck fitting, turn the spigot on, and presto
Water fills our two 150-gallon tanks in less than
a half hour. The supply lasts for a couple of
weeks or more, depending on how much we use.
A wall-mounted gauge tracks the water
level in each tank, but I've learned to recognize
the clue that tells me when they're nearing
empty: the faucet makes a sputtering sound and
water spurts rather than flows.
I've discovered a similarity of sorts
between this aspect of boat life and my relationship
with Jesus. Scripture promises that His presence
fills me with joy, but that doesn't happen
automatically. I need to connect with Him through
disciplines such as praying, reading His Word, obeying
His commands, and practicing gratitude.
Consistent fellowship keeps my spiritual tank full.
If I disconnect from Jesus, my spiritual
tank eventually runs dry. I feel impatient with
my husband, fall into the comparison trap,
become easily critical of others, and feel anxious
for my kids' well-being. Joy no longer flows but
rather spurts and sputters. These clues tell me I
need to reconnect with Jesus. His supply of joy
is endless, and it's always available to fill
my tank. Grace Fox
