2 Timothy 1:12 - Theres No Regret In Choosing Christ.
2 Timothy 1:12 (NLT) That is why I am
suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it,
for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am
sure that he is able to guard what I have
entrusted to him until the day of his return.
2 Timothy 1:12 (MSG) It's also the cause of
all this trouble I'm in. But I have no regrets.
I couldn't be more sure of my ground"the One
I've trusted in can take care of what he's
trusted me to do right to the end.
INTRODUCTION
Soon the night of trial and suffering would
end, and then would dawn the glad morning of
peace and perfect day. The apostle was looking
into the great beyond, not with uncertainty or
dread, but with joyous hope and longing
expectation. As he stands at the place of martyrdom he
sees not the sword of the executioner or the
earth so soon to receive his blood; he looks up
through the calm blue heaven of that summer day to
the throne of the Eternal. AA511-512
The phrase "guard what I have entrusted to
him" could mean: (1) Paul knew that God would
protect the souls of those converted through his
preaching; (2) Paul trusted God to guard his own soul
until Christ's second coming; or (3) Paul was
confident that, though he was in prison and facing
death, God would carry out the Good News ministry
through others such as Timothy. Paul may have
expressed his confidence to encourage Timothy, who was
undoubtedly discouraged by the problems in Ephesus and
fearful of persecution. Even in prison, Paul knew
that God was still in control. No matter what
setbacks or problems we face, we can trust fully in
God. [Life Application SB]
COMMENTARY PEARL
Life In Christ Works
Does Christianity work? Does anything
really happen when a person repents of sin and
receives Christ by faith?
I can only tell you that it worked in my
own life. I was reared during the Depression on
a farm in North Carolina. My parents weren't
able to give me the advantages most young people
enjoy today. I grew up in a Christian home, but by
the time I was fifteen, I was in full revolt
against all religion - against God, the Bible, the
church.
But one night I committed my life to
Jesus Christ, and He gave me a whole new
direction. My grades picked up. My attitude toward
others changed. I began to seek God's will instead
of my own way. No, I didn't become perfect, but
my life was changed.
I have been all over the world, and I
have never met anyone who regretted giving his or
her life to Christ. And neither will you.
Of all the things you may regret,
choosing Christ will never be one of them. You will
never be abandoned, unloved, or misunderstood by
Him. You will have purpose and passion. You will
always have a place to call home. [Hope for Each
Day by Billy Graham]
