Micah 5:2 - Are You Shining for Jesus?
Micah 5:2 (NLT) But you, O Bethlehem
Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the
people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel, whose
origins are in the distant past, will come from you
on my behalf.
COMMENTARY PEARL
We were living in a large southern city
when my husband started a job in the Midwest. By
the time our two little boys and I joined him,
he had rented a house in a small rural town
(called a village in that area). The place had one
stop light, one grocery store, one restaurant,
and a Dairy Queen. At first his choice surprised
me, but I soon discovered a community filled
with friendly people, vibrant church
congregations, and excellent schools. A forest preserve
offered wonderful opportunities to enjoy nature.
Anything else we needed could be reached by a short
drive down the interstate.
Bethlehem may have seemed like an
insignificant village in the world's eyes, but God had big
plans in store. This location held special worth
because it would be the birthplace of the Savior of
the world. At the right time, Jesus was born and
the light of His glory shone in the sky in the
form of a star. This light drew shepherds and
Magi to Him.
In the world's eyes, we may seem
insignificant or unimportant. We may even feel that way
about ourselves sometimes. But we have great worth
because the One who was born in Bethlehem also lives
inside us. If we live in close fellowship with Him,
when the time is right His glory will shine from
us and be seen by anyone we're interacting
with. How can we feel insignificant when Jesus
wants to use us to draw people to Himself? Dianne

Faith Step: The next time you feel
unimportant, thank Jesus for living inside you. Ask Him
to help you shine His light for everyone around
you to see. [Mornings With Jesus 2021 Devotional
