Psalm 46:10 - Being Still to Know God.

Psalm 46:10 (KJV) Be still, and know that I
am God:

Psalm 46:10 (NLT) Be silent, and know that I
am God!

INTRODUCTION

Christ Speaks in Quietness. Everyone needs
to have a personal experience in obtaining a
knowledge of the will of God. We must individually
hear Him speaking to the heart. When every other
voice is hushed, and in quietness we wait before
Him, the silence of the soul makes more distinct
the voice of God. DA 363

COMMENTARY PEARL

An intensity such as never before was
seen is taking possession of the world. In
amusement, in moneymaking, in the contest for power, in
the very struggle for existence, there is a
terrible force that engrosses body and mind and soul.
In the midst of this maddening rush, God is
speaking. He bids us come apart and commune with Him.
"Be still, and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10.

Many, even in their seasons of devotion,
fail of receiving the blessing of real communion
with God. They are in too great haste. With
hurried steps they press through the circle of
Christ's loving presence, pausing perhaps a moment
within the sacred precincts, but not waiting for
counsel. They have no time to remain with the divine
Teacher. With their burdens they return to their
work.
These workers can never attain the
highest success until they learn the secret of
strength. They must give themselves time to think, to
pray, to wait upon God for a renewal of physical,
mental, and spiritual power. They need the uplifting
influence of His Spirit. Receiving this, they will be
quickened by fresh life. The wearied frame and tired
brain will be refreshed, the burdened heart will
be lightened... Not a pause for a moment in His
presence, but personal contact with Christ, to sit
down in companionship with Him - this is our
need. ED260-261

ILLUSTRATION

I'm a teacher at a small private school
where elementary, junior high, and high school
kids and staff meet in separate buildings on one
campus. Every morning, after I put my belongings in
my classroom, I grab my coffee cup and make the
long walk across campus to the main building
where the industrial coffee machine is located. No
matter how early I arrive, I'm always in a rush to
get back to my classroom so I can tie up loose
ends before the first bell rings.
I often cross paths with other teachers,
and over time I noticed a significant difference
between another teacher and me. When Jenny walks her
daughter to class each morning, she never seems to be
in a rush. While my walk seems underscored by
trumpets and cymbals from a fast-tempo,
action-adventure soundtrack, hers seems better suited to the
calm, soothing sounds of a cello. Her arms don't
flail about. Her heels don't click like the keys
of a 1950s typewriter. She simply strolls.
   Her peaceful, unhurried demeanor inspired
me. I decided to intentionally slow down and use
my morning coffee runs as time alone with
Jesus. Now as I walk, I ask Him to prepare my heart
for the day ahead and to help me love my
students well. I have found that the slower I walk as
I pray, the more peaceful and settled my heart
feels. Emily E. Ryan
Faith Step: Take a walk today without
counting your steps, listening to music, or trying to
be home by a certain time. As you stroll, talk
to Jesus about the small details of your day.
Don't rush while you pray. [Mornings With Jesus
