1 Peter 1:3, 4 (NIV) [God] has given us new 
birth into a living hope through the resurrection 
of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an 
inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade - kept 
in heaven for you.  

COMMENTARY PEARL

   How do we know Heaven isn't just wishful 
thinking on our part? Each of us has an inner sense 
or feeling that death is not the end, because 
God "set eternity in the human heart" 
(Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV). 
   Repeatedly Jesus told His disciples not 
only that Heaven exists but that someday they 
would go there. He declared, "I am the 
resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will 
live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and 
believes in me will never die" (John 11:25-26). 
   But can we know that there is life after 
death? The only way would be for someone to die - 
and then come back to life and tell us what lies 
beyond the grave. And that's exactly what happened 
when Jesus Christ rose again from the dead. More 
than that, however, Jesus' death and resurrection 
tell us that sin and death have been defeated 
forever. Heaven is God's promise to you and to all 
who put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as 
their Lord and Savior.
