John 11:25, 26 - Experiencing Resurrection Power!

John 11:25, 26 (NIV) Jesus said to her, "I
am the resurrection and the life. He who
believes in me will live, even though he dies; and
whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do
you believe this?"

INTRODUCTION

Twenty-three times in all we find our
Lord's meaningful "I AM" in the Greek text of this
Gospel 4:26; 6:20, 35, 41, 48, 51; 8:12, 18, 24,
28, 58; 10:7, 9, 11, 14; 11:25; 13:19; 14:6;
15:1, 5; 18:5, 6, 8). In several of these, He
joins His "I AM" with seven tremendous metaphors
which are expressive of His saving relationship
toward the world.
   "I AM the Bread of life" (6:35, 41, 48,
51).
"I AM the Light of the world" (8:12).
"I AM the Door of the sheep" (10:7, 9).
   "I AM the Good Shepherd" (10:11, 14).
"I AM the Resurrection and the Life"
(11:25).
"I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life"
(14:6).
   "I AM the true Vine" (15:1, 5).
[MacArthur Daily Bible 2003]

Christ endured an agonizing death under
the most humiliating circumstances that we might
have life. He gave up His precious life that He
might vanquish death. But He rose from the tomb,
and the myriads of angels who came to behold Him
take up the life He had laid down heard His words
of triumphant joy as He stood above Joseph's
rent sepulcher proclaiming: "I am the
resurrection, and the life."
The question, "If a man die, shall he
live again?" has been answered. By bearing the
penalty of sin, by going down into the grave, Christ
has brightened the tomb for all who die in
faith. God in human form has brought life and
immortality to light through the gospel. In dying,
Christ secured eternal life for all who believe in
Him. 6T230, 1

COMMENTARY PEARL

Do you accept these words of Jesus? I do.
Even His most avowed enemies never caught Him in
a lie. He, who was truth itself, can be
trusted implicitly. He said He would be in the grave
three days - and He was. He said He would come
forth from the grave - and He did. And we, also,
will one day die and be resurrected. This is the
great hope and certainty for those who follow
Jesus.
Even without these proofs I would still
know that Christ lives because He lives in me. I
talk to Him every morning when I wake up. He
walks with me, and even as I write these words,
His presence is overwhelmingly known.
Are you looking for Jesus? He is near you
today. Look at the cross, and you will see the
evidence - His blood shed for you - but He is not
there. Look at the tomb, and you will see the
evidence - it is empty - for He lives! Look for Jesus
- He is knocking at the door of your heart.
Is the Lord knocking at the door of your
heart? [Peace for Each Day by Billy Graham]

COMMENTARY

A little gypsy girl was sitting for a
portrait in an artist's studio, and she noticed on
the wall a half-finished portrait of Christ on
the cross. The girl asked who it was. When told
it was Jesus, she responded that He must have
been a very wicked man to have been nailed to a
cross. The painter told her that, on the contrary,
"Christ was the best man that ever lived, and that
He died on the cross that others might live."
She looked at him with innocence and asked, "Did
He die for you?" The question haunted the
artist's conscience, for though he knew the truth
about Christ, he had not accepted Him as his
Savior. He found he was no longer satisfied with
life until he answered the question that you must
also answer: Did He die for you?
Have you received the living Christ? I am
not asking you to receive a Christ who is
hanging dead on a cross. Take Christ into your life
- the resurrected Christ, who walks with those
He has transformed by His grace.
Did Jesus die for you? [Peace for Each
Day by Billy Graham]

CLOSING THOUGHT

The Voice That Empties The Grave
Romans 6:5 says, We will certainly
also be united with him in a resurrection like
His. Do you believe this promise? Do you believe
that Jesus is the resurrection and the life?
Jesus question to Martha is his question to you.
You see, death is the great equalizer. What do
the billionaire and the peasant have in common?
Both will die; we all will. But not all will face
death in the same manner. Let the story of the
resurrected Lazarus remind you: Jesus authority
extends over even the cemetery.
Do you believe this? The question is
personal. Whats more, its precise. Do you
believe this? This claim Christ makes about his
deity and about your destiny? Jesus is Lord over
the cemetery. His voice can empty a grave, and
you are designed for a Lazarus moment. Do you
believe this? Remember, my friend, you are never
alone. [Max Lucado Daily Devotional at
