Colossians 4:2 - Ready For Eternity.
Colossians 4:2 (NKJV) Continue earnestly in
prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;
COMMENTARY PEARL
The Bible sounds the alarm and warns
mankind to prepare for eternity. The Bible also
predicts a fabulous future for those who trust in
Him. The second coming of Christ will be so
revolutionary that it will change every aspect of life on
this planet. Christ will reign in righteousness.
Disease will be eliminated. Death will be abolished.
War will be eradicated. Nature will be
transformed. Men, women, and children will live as life
was originally designed, in fellowship with God
and each other.
Does this give you hope for real change?
If not, I urge you to examine where you stand
before the God of judgment, but with the certain
hope that He is the same God of peace.
Someone once observed that there are
three days a week that we have no control over -
yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We only have this
moment in time to prepare for eternity. For those
who delay, why do you wait? If you think you can
clean up your past to make preparation feasible,
your efforts are futile. You can't change your
past, but you can change your future.
How often do you find yourself trying to
clean up your past? [Peace for Each Day by Billy
Graham]
COMMENTARY
We must pray always if we would grow in
faith and experience. We are to be "instant in
prayer," to "continue in prayer, and watch in the
same with thanksgiving." Unceasing prayer is
the unbroken union of the soul with God, SC97-8
Many have not a living faith. This is why
they do not see more of the power of God. Their
weakness is the result of their unbelief. They have
more faith in their own working than in the
working of God for them. They take themselves into
their own keeping. They plan and devise, but pray
little, and have little real trust in God. They
think they have faith, but it is only the impulse
of the moment. Failing to realize their own
need, or God's willingness to give, they do not
persevere in keeping their requests before the Lord.
COL145
We cannot spend all our time on our knees,
but it is possible to have a prayerful attitude
at all times. This attitude is built upon
acknowledging our dependence on God, realizing his
presence within us, and determining to obey him
fully. Then we will find it natural to pray
frequent, spontaneous, short prayers. A prayerful
attitude is not a substitute for regular times of
prayer but should be an outgrowth of those times.
