2 Corinthians 5:5 - SPIRIT LIFE.

2 Corinthians 5:5 (NIV) Now it is God who
has made us for this very purpose and has given
us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what
is to come.

2 Corinthians 5:5 (NCV) This is what God
made us for, and he has given us the Spirit to be
a guarantee for this new life.

INTRODUCTION

The Holy Spirit is God's "guarantee" of what
will come. His work in our lives today assures us
that the healing process will be thoroughly
completed in Christ's presence. Each time the Holy
Spirit reminds you of Scripture, convicts you of
sin, restrains you from selfish behavior, or
prompts you to love, you have evidence that he is
present. You have the Spirit within you beginning the
transformation process. Whether you deal with aches and
pains or even disabling limitations, trust God
that his total renovation of your body and soul
is in process. [Life Application SB]

God has given us the Spirit. The Holy
Spirit applies the benefits of Christs redeeming
work to the hearts of believers and makes his
resurrection power a reality of their daily experience
(cf. 4:10"16 and notes). This guarantees their
eventual transformation into the likeness of
Christs glorified body (see Php 3:21 and note). [NIV
SB 2020]

COMMENTARY PEARL

Spirit Life
For what exactly has God has created us?
It is to be "clothed with our heavenly home" (2
Corinthians 5:4). Paul reminded us of the knowledge of
our mortality in the beginning of this chapter.
When we are faced with the limitations of our
lives, let us not give in to despair. Our lives do
not end when our bodies fail us. There is an
eternal hope in the glory of Christ's kingdom in
which we get to share.
The Holy Spirit is our guarantee for this
new life we await. The breath of God's very own
Spirit gives life, hope, love, joy, peace, and
strength into our inner beings. This is why Paul
continued in verse six, "so we always have courage."
We have courage because of the companionship of
his Spirit which never leaves us! [365 Days of
Courage by Sara Perry of Broadstreet Pub]

COMMENTARY

Filled, Refilled, and Filled Again
Lets say that you just bought a
brand-new car and were enjoying everything about it,
from the new-car smell to the beautiful new
paint. But it suddenly started sputtering and then
stopped completely. You have it towed to the
dealership, where you demand an explanation. A
technician gets into the car and turns on the ignition.
Then he informs you that youre out of gas.
The Christian life can be like that.
Sometimes, we run out of gas, or we start shutting down
because our batteries are low. I can barely make it
through an entire day without my cell phone going
dead. I need to plug it in and recharge it
periodically.
If youre losing momentum in your walk
with God, maybe you need a recharge. You need to
be filled, refilled, and filled again with the
Holy Spirit.
In the Book of Acts, we read about
Gods outpouring of the Holy Spirit onto a group
of believers gathered in Jerusalem in what we
now know as the Pentecost. This outpouring on
that day set the Church in motion.
But what does being filled with the Holy
Spirit mean? Sometimes, we think it means that
well have an emotional experience. Maybe we will,
and maybe we wont. It would be nice if, at
the start of each day, we could get a zap of
sorts that fills us with energy and passion.
However, I think that our being filled with the Holy
Spirit may not even affect us emotionally. If we
want this to happen, we will have to ask for it.

Lastly, the Holy Spirit isnt an
it; the Holy Spirit is a He. The Holy Spirit is
God and a member of the Trinity. He has a will
and a purpose, and He wants to accomplish
something in your life and mine. [Greg Laurie from

ONE LINERS

If a man is filled with the Holy Spirit he
will not necessarily be noisy, highly excited or
full of physical strength. The Spirit-filled life
is a life of calm poise and quiet confidence
(Isaiah 30:15). To be filled with the Holy Spirit is
not to reach a state of sinless perfection or to
attain a state where the old nature is eradicated
(1 John 1:8,10). Words of Life Ministries

The Holy Spirit's influence increases the
more we obey and give Him freedom to work.
Another vivid picture comes from the original word
to be filled" because it means to be
overflowing and having more than enough. Christ
