Proverbs 1:33 - Fear No Evil.
Proverbs 1:33 (NKJV) But whoever listens to
me will dwell safely, And will be secure,
without fear of evil."
COMMENTARY PEARL
Are you afraid to turn on the lights in
your house? It sounds like a silly question, but
not for Benjamin Harrison. In 1897, the
President of the United States decided to have a new
invention installed in the White House - electric
lights. But the commander in chief and his wife were
afraid of getting shocked by the new system, which
was made with crude wiring. They never touched a
light switch and always had White House staff turn
them on or off.
You might giggle at Harrison's
electrophobia, but have you ever been afraid of something?
Some people are frightened by spiders or snakes
or flying or public speaking. What sends
shivers up your spine? How about evil?
Fear isn't all bad. It keeps us on our
toes and helps us to be careful. And, for the
Christian, we all know there is a devil who wants to
destroy us. So, shouldn't we be afraid of Satan? Not
according to today's Bible promise. Those who listen
to God's wise counsel, yet who not only listen
but also obey the word of the Lord, can live
"without fear of evil."
It's a good idea to have a healthy
respect for poisonous spiders and snakes. We should
be careful around electricity because it could
kill us. But there is no need to fear the devil
when you put yourself in God's hands. The Lord is
far more powerful than Satan; He will protect
His weakest child.
Are you afraid of the devil's darkness?
Turn on the light of God's promises. When you
truly listen to and live by the Bible, you have
nothing to fear.
Dear Lord, I give You all my fears and
