Romans 8:31 - Fear Not for God Is for You!Romans 8:31 (KJV) What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?Romans 8:31 (NCV) So what should we say about this? If God is with us, no one can defeat us. Romans 8:31 (MSG) So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? INTRODUCTION AND WORD STUDY If God be for us. There is no uncertainty about this, as the Greek construction clearly shows. Paul has already shown how God is on our side. God regards us as His sons (vs. 15-17) and has sent His Spirit to help us (v. 26), for it is His purpose to save us (vs. 28-30). [SDA Bible Commentary] COMMENTARY Manna in the Wilderness The American black bear dwells in relatively inaccessible areas of dense vegetation. While sometimes found roaming inhabited places, these bears thrive among the mountains where there is no cultivated ground and, it seems, scarcely a thing to be eaten. Yet, they weigh as much as 500 pounds, have the strength to move boulders, and can even run 30 miles per hour! There are many creatures dwelling in remote places that have everything they need to not only sustain life, but also to have an abundant existence. It is God who created and sustains them. And if God so loves the beasts of the field, "of how much more value are you" (Luke 12:24)? Today's Bible verse promises that God cares for us. He is on our side and delights not only in meeting our needs, but also in fulfilling every noble desire of our hearts. "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" (John 10:10). Whatever we need, we do not have to fear that we will be left empty-handed, for God is able to provide far more than what we ask. Have you been fearful of the future? Have you been in a stressful position, unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel? Put away your fear and banish your anxiety by taking up the promises of God. No one can rob you of the love of God; your loving Father will give you His strength, provide for your needs, and see you through. Loving Father, thank You for Your promises to calm my heart. Help me not to be anxious but to pray and trust in You. Not hardship or storm. Not war or famine. The God who created the universe with his words, speaks life to us right where we are at. May we find our great confidence, not in our comfort or the peace of this world, but in Christ himself. May we look to him no matter what is happening around us. There is perfect peace in his presence. There is abundant affection in his heart. There is jubilant joy in his victory. There is more than enough to sustain us and revive us in hope in his generous grace and mercy! Memorize this verse and recite it whenever you need a boost of courage today!
