COMMENTARY PEARL Faithful Follower Thomas Chisholm wrote more than 1,200 poems after he became a Christian at the age of 26. His most popular poem, "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," was set to music and published in 1923. Interestingly, the poem wasn't written due to an agonizing trial or a remarkable miracle, but because of how faithfully God had led him through the years. God promises to faithfully lead us. He may not always reveal Himself with great manifestations of power, but sometimes through "a still small voice" (1 Kings 19:12). That "small voice" has led, guided, reproved, and encouraged many generations since the beginning of Earth's history. God has made it plain that His "faithfulness endures to all generations." He also has led and provided for us even when we didn't know Him. The Bible tells us that "He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust" (Matthew 5:45). How merciful God is to us! His faithfulness is also revealed through His creation. God has "established the earth, and it abides." He is still in control of His creation by telling the waves, "This far you may come, but no farther" (Job 38:11). He has set limits within nature. Today's verse also mentions that the earth "abides." Therefore, we can be sure that "while the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, day and night shall not cease" (Genesis 8:22). God shows His love and faithfulness by leading, providing, and giving us His creation to enjoy. We can agree with David that "Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You established the earth, and it abides." Oh, how God loves you by fulfilling this marvelous promise!
