INTRODUCTION This is a psalm of praise anticipating the coming of God to rule his people. Jesus fulfilled this anticipation when he came to save all people from their sins (98:2, 3), and he will come again to judge the world (98:8, 9). God is both perfectly loving and perfectly just. He is merciful when he punishes, and he overlooks no sin when he loves. Praise him for his promise to save you and to return again. [Life Application SB] COMMENTARY PEARL "Were you singing?" my husband, Jeff, asked me as I straggled into the kitchen early one morning. I couldn't imagine what he was talking about. I don't talk, much less sing, before my coffee, but he insisted. "Something about joy in the house of the Lord?" said Jeff. I thought for a moment. I'd awakened with the song "House of the Lord" in my head from a dream. But how could I not realize I was singing? Perhaps because these days, I carry a song in my heart. It hadn't always been that way. For years, I'd listened to talk radio or news, mostly by force of habit. People who called in to talk shows were usually angry. The news was generally bad. I never felt uplifted. One day when I switched the dial to a Christian radio station, I heard a song we sang in church and I kept listening. That was decades ago. Every day, I hear music that reflects the way I'm feeling. Some of the songs are so touching that they make me cry. Some are so joyful I want to dance. When I sing along, I feel so close to Him. At night, when I am worried and fearful, Jesus plants a song in my mind to lull me to sleep. The joy, hope, and peace Christian music has brought me has changed my life.
