1 John 1:7 - Living In The Light.

1 John 1:7 (NLT) But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

INTRODUCTION

Sin, by its very nature, brings death - that is a fact as certain as the law of gravity. Jesus did not die for his own sins; he had none. Instead, by a transaction that we may never fully understand, he died for the sins of the world. When we commit our lives to Christ and thus identify ourselves with him, his death becomes ours. He has paid the penalty for our sins, and his blood has purified us. Just as Christ rose from the grave, we rise to a new life of fellowship with him (Romans 6:4). [Life Application SB]

COMMENTARY PEARL

An Amazing Fact: A cockroach can live for a week without its head.
One of the hardiest creatures on our planet is the lowly cockroach. This pesky critter can survive in extreme habitats, from freezing Arctic cold to searing tropical heat.
Because the cockroach breathes through tiny holes in each of its body segments, it uses its mouth for feeding but not breathing. (It can also hold its breath for 30 minutes underwater.) Because it also has masses of nerve tissue in each of those body segments, it can exist - moving and breathing - without its own head! But without a mouth, it cannot eat or drink and eventually dies of dehydration.
While there are more than 4,000 species of cockroaches, about 30 are found among our populations and only four commonly terrorize us as pests, including the sociable German cockroach.
But before you brush off these annoying bugs as just an insignificant nuisance, you should know that the cockroach is capable of carrying 33 types of bacteria, six parasitic worms, and more than seven human pathogens. What's worse, these fast, little creatures can run up to three miles per hour. That means that they can quickly spread germs throughout your home.
Some say that someday, if humans end up destroying the planet with nuclear weapons, cockroaches will "inherit the earth." But while cockroaches have higher radiation resistance than we do, the Scriptures actually foretell that "the meek ... shall inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5)."
The cockroach belongs to the order of insects called Blattodea, from the Latin word meaning "an insect that shuns the light." But Jesus once said, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life" (John 8:12). Will you be like a cockroach and hide from Jesus' light? Or will you "let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16)? [Moving Mountains by Amazing Facts]
