Psalm 70:4 - Rejoicing Always.Psalm 70:4 (NKJV) Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; And let those who love Your salvation say continually, "Let God be magnified!"Psalm 70:4 (NLT) But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, "God is great!" INTRODUCTION This short psalm (similar in content to 40:13-17) was David's plea for God to rush quickly to his aid. Yet even in his moment of panic, David did not forget to praise him. Praise is important because it helps us remember who God is; it reminds us of his greatness, love, mercy, and power. Often our prayers are filled with requests for ourselves and others, and we forget to thank God for what he has done and to worship him for who he is. Don't take God for granted or treat him as a vending machine, dispensing only your favorite choices. Even when David was afraid, he praised God. [Life Application SB 2019] COMMENTARY PEARL An Amazing Fact: Some science studies suggest that happiness might be more important to health than diet or exercise/A few of the benefits of happiness are decreased blood pressure, increased energy, better mental health, improved relationships, and more creativity. Some of the best ways to increase your happiness are: exercise, doing kind things for others, counting your blessings, and praising God. David is a prime example of a person who praised God no matter what was happening in his life. Many of the Psalms were written when David was in dire trouble. Psalm 70 seems to be one of these. It starts out with a plea: "Make haste, O God, to deliver me! Make haste to help me, O LORD. Let them be ashamed and confounded who seek my life; let them be turned back and confused who desire my hurt" (vs. 1, 2). Threatened by enemies who wanted to murder him, David sat down and wrote a song. While it contains urgent pleas for help, it also contains powerful praises to the Lord. We can see this pattern repeated in many of the Psalms of David. He knew where his strength came from; he knew the Source of his hope. In good times and bad - in all circumstances - he praised the God of heaven. In spite of the difficulties in life, we have a God who loves us. He is always with us, for we are His children. He promises us forgiveness and eternal life. This gives us hope and a constant reason to rejoice in Him.
