Jeremiah 30:7 - Time of Trouble.

Jeremiah 30:7 (NLT) In all history there has never been such a time of terror. It will be a time of trouble for my people Israel. Yet in the end they will be saved!

COMMENTARY PEARLS

Jacob's night of anguish, when he wrestled in prayer for deliverance from the hand of Esau (Genesis 32:24-30), represents the experience of God's people in the time of trouble.... Jacob's company, unarmed and defenseless, seemed about to fall helpless victims of violence and slaughter. And to the burden of anxiety and fear was added the crushing weight of self-reproach, for it was his own sin that had brought this danger. His only hope was in the mercy of God; his only defense must be prayer. GC 616

I saw that the four angels would hold the four winds until Jesus' work was done in the sanctuary, and then will come the seven last plagues. These plagues enraged the wicked against the righteous; they thought that we had brought the judgments of God upon them, and that if they could rid the earth of us, the plagues would then be stayed. A decree went forth to slay the saints, which caused them to cry day and night for deliverance. This was the time of Jacob's trouble. Then all the saints cried out with anguish of spirit, and were delivered by the voice of God. EW 36-37

COMMENTARY

The 20th century began with great optimism. Between the progress of science, along with Enlightenment ideals about human reason and perfectibility; people expected great things.
Well, within 15 years they got the most devastating war, World War I, that humanity had ever faced. And, about 20 years later, they got an even more devastating war, World War II.
When the 21st century began, ushered in by 9/11, few harbored great hope for the future. Now, between political chaos, economic inequality, environmental concerns, and wars - the future can, indeed, look bleak.
And yet, why should we be surprised? The Bible more than once talks about how bad things are going to get in the end. Read Matthew 24, Jesus' own description of what the world will be like before He returns. He nailed it.
But there's hope in our promise for today. Yes, the world is heading toward a tough time, a time of "Jacob's trouble," as the text says. But, for God's people, it will be more of a spiritual struggle, reminiscent of Jacob's wrestling with God (Genesis 32:24-30). Just as Jacob was hated by Esau, so the remnant "will be hated by all for [His] name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved" (Matthew 10:22).
Trouble is coming, yes; but by faith in Jesus, by faith in who He is and what He has done for you, you can have assurance of ultimate victory in Him, now and in the last days.
Lord Jesus, help me to trust in You today, and for whatever else comes my way. [The Most Amazing Bible Promises by Amazing Facts]
