John 10:27 - Hearing the Voice of God.John 10:27 (NKJV) My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.John 10:27 (NLT) My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. INTRODUCTION In this grand statement, Jesus summarized the blessings of those who truly listen to and believe the gospel. The believer in Jesus knows him personally, has eternal life, will not perish, and is secure in his care. But many of those who heard had no intention of truly listening. It is also true that those refusing to listen to Jesus' voice are not his sheep. We Recognize Christ's Voice When He Speaks To Us Through The Bible. Are we truly listening for it? (Life Application Commentary) COMMENTARY PEARL Drawing Near To Listen Calming the storm of our minds is often easier said than done. The noise of fear, discomfort, comparison, and want can bombard our brains. When life gets stressful, it can feel like the noise in your mind is cranked up to a ten. "I just want to turn my brain off" is a reaction to the noisiness that a heavy storm often brings. But how do we turn down the noise and recenter on the life of fullness and peace Jesus offers? By getting closer to Him and keying in on the voice of our Good Shepherd. When you listen to Jesus' voice, the cacophony of anxiety starts to fade to the background, and you begin to follow Him more intimately. It's hard to listen to someone who is far off or distant. If you want to listen well, you'll need to draw near. And once you're close, you stay close. When you listen to your Chief Shepherd, when you are led and guided by His voice, you start to live with eternity in mind and take on a sense of unshakable peace. Dear Jesus, You promise that if I draw near to You, You will draw near to me. Help me cling to this promise today and come close to You.
